I hope you all had a happy and productive thanksgiving. as for me, after eating too much for lunch and taking a nap afterward, I did get some things accomplished today. first, I am still in the process of getting my holley dual quad sniper system tuned. I have only driven it a couple times, and I think I am getting there. I read a lot of people have issues with RFI and while I don't think I have any right now it apparently can happen down the road so I decided to be pro-active. I relocated my coil and ran the wiring a bit differently and shielded some of the wiring. I really didn't want to put it on the fender, but I decided after looking at my options this was the best spot for it. after it is done, I don't think it looks too bad.

I also just got my new fuel pressure gauge. I had not originally planned on having one inside, but I was having some backfiring issues and the sniper was reading lean at times so I decided to put one in. I ordered it from speedhut to match my other gauges.

I had always planned to relocate the handheld or remove it, but I decided to put it in the glove box. I have this holder from t dog on ebay that you can just slide out of the bracket for easy use, and I have another coming that has a magnetic back so I can stick it to the dash when I really want to monitor things.

and I took a few "pretty much" finished at least at this point interior pics.

after that I sat the roll bar in place and mocked it up. I will plan to drill the mounting holes and paint and mount it this weekend.

I also reprogrammed the IAC on the sniper. so all in all a pretty productive day after all.

Very productive. It sure looks great! Magnetic stuck to the dash? Ugh, be careful! ;D

It was neat to hear on the test drive with your daughter she wanted to verify it was safe for her sister to ride in.

yeah, lol she is a funny girl. she has some learning disabilities, but the biggest heart in the world. her sister is younger than her, but has always kind of taken care of her, and acted more like her big sister, so my oldest daughter thinks the world of her. they are both pretty good kids.

I painted my rollbar and with a little help from my wife I got it bolted in.

then I went to install my windshield stiffeners I bought from BC broncos where I found another little bump in the road. it is always fun when you mix and match things from multiple suppliers who have no idea what you intend to do with them. anyway this is the way they look on there website.

9ANmegl.jpg

in retrospect you can see they are obviously designed with there own soft top in mind. I bought a Bestop soft top and bikini top. and there windshield bracket is different. so this is what I had to do to make it work.

BlVwKMF.jpg

and i did not like it at all. it fit odd and caused a significant torque to be put on the rods. also they were at a pretty strange angle. all in all I was not satisfied with it, so I made some simple angle iron brackets and powdercoated them and mounted them to the front bracket.

m75b1KB.jpg

and that helped a lot.

E5aW4DN.jpg

then I went ahead and put my bikini top on.

m3cBSpt.jpg

I need to get the soft top on it, but I am going to need some significant help for that since the tops of my truck have no holes to mount to I am going to have to figure it out and drill all the holes. so I am going to wait until my daughter and son in law come home in a couple weeks.

I decided to change over to having the sniper run timing because the guy that is going to remote tune it suggested it. so I swapped to a different distributor that is lower profile and does not have the vacuum advance. then I swapped over the wiring. it was a pretty easy swap and actually cleaned up my wiring a bit.

the first time I tried to start it, it was a no go, so I had to diagnose what I did wrong. I realized that I had made a mistake in the wiring, once I corrected that, it started right up with no issues. it sounded pretty good, but it was 1 am by that time.

the next day I took it on a nice drive all over town, it is a real head turner, either that or people just think Im nuts running around with a bikini top in December LOL. but it was a nice drive. the truck is running awesome. and this is just the base sniper tune, once Mad science tuning gets done with it, it will be even better.

this video is one of the areas I was having a lot of issues, low rpm in too high a gear really lugging the engine, but now it handles it like a champ. no popping or backfiring, and on acceleration this thing is quick for a big square brick on wheels. it runs great all over town. all in all it is really fun to drive.

then, yesterday, I had been bugged by the fact the rear bumper has these empty holes in them. I don't have the front bumperettes on yet either, but that is a project for the future, but the back is just empty holes, so I bought these led stainless light bolts. and wired them to the 3rd brake light wire so they come on when you press the brake. I also swapped in my LED taillights.

I had my new son in law, help me get the new soft top on this weekend. then took it for a nice drive. the heater works pretty good, and the soft top keeps it surprisingly comfortable inside. it seals up much better than I expected. it was a lot more difficult to get it on and in place than expected, but with patience we managed it.

more tuning on the sniper. It is running great. I am very happy with it. I also have my seatbelts in, and I did some tweaking of the throttle linkage. nothing much but it makes it more comfortable and smoother to drive. I need to bend my dual stick t-case linkage a bit more, it is still not quite how I want it. I eventually plan to swap to an atlas case, but no sense in leaving this less than optimal. I am really looking forward to taking this bronco on a nice cruise somewhere a bit further than around town. hopefully my next weekend off I can get it out and really see what it will do. I still need to get a horn for it, and a couple other minor tweaks, but overall this bronco is ready to show off, I love driving it. it never fails to get a thumbs up and a nice truck wherever I go.

I was never happy with the way the transfer case shifted, and I didn't like the way the boot fit either so I did some reworking on it. I replaced the transfer case shifter with a jb fab version, mostly because I couldn't get my original to shift properly and i did not like the way the shifters fit. so I modified the floor some more, I had to space up the shifter to make it work, but now the transfer case is shifting much better. I also have been planning on replacing the original ax15 shifter with a short throw shifter. I know wild horses, and most other vendors like the b&m shifter, but I think it is kind of boring looking and I have always liked hurst shifters. so I ordered a core shifter which is basically a reproduction of the original hurst shifter and a new chrome shift lever. that will be delivered in a couple weeks. I also really didn't like the way the boot fit so I decided to make a removeable panel so I can access the shift levers for adjustment and replacement ease, and to make it so I can put the boot where I want it. I have been considering doing an atlas t-case swap because I didn't like the way the dana 20 shifted, but hopefully this will fix that, and I can hold off on the atlas swap until I am bored and want to do "something else" to the bronco. the panel is built, I bought another new tool to help, a new eastwood throatless shear. I love tools lol. and once I get it bed linered to match the floor I will get some pictures. I am liking it a lot better though.

woohoo!!!!! I am registered for the Bronco safari in Moab april 27-to may 1st. they are limiting the number of people who can register right now, but hopefully the restrictions will ease up as covid slows down and more people are vaccinated. but I am going. I have my reservations made, my tickets printed and I am pumped. I am not going to drive the Bronco all the way out there, so I am going to do some work on my trailer and get it all tuned up. I am excited

Novak Front bearing cover

I got the rest of my parts in last night and spent several hours putting the t-case back together. man I struggled to get those stupid thrust washers to stay stuck to the side of the case long enough to squeeze that intermediate shaft in. I thought keeping the needle bearings from falling out would be the hard part . but I did finally get it. I replaced the front out put gear with a new one due to excessive wear. I put a novak front bearing cover on it and got it set up with the proper shims this is a nice piece.

eJZ2nI3.jpg

then getting that stupid intermediate gear in. I used a zip tie around the gear to give me something to hold onto, and I ended up starting the shaft into the case just enough to give the rear thrust bearing something to ride on, and I used a 7/8 socket for the front and that finally allowed me to get it all together without one of those stupid washers falling down into the case.

qvxebcy.jpg

then the wild horses extreme assembled rear output shaft and there billet cover, that looks nice too I think. it is just sitting on there for now. I will wait until I get the adapter for the new transmission before I button that up for good.

but I think it is a nice improvement and will look good between the frame,

Where did you find the Novak cover? I've tried their website but didn't see it.
Thanks, Perry

I bought it direct from Novak. if I recall correctly I had to call them. make sure you specify it is for a ford dana 20 not a jeep. the casting is slightly different.
edit. I am not sure they make them for broncos anymore I tried to find it again, and it is no longer listed. try giving them a call would be my suggestion.

I finally got my new Hurst shifter in, I had to do a bit of grinding to get it to fit but it works, and I made a panel to cover the area because it is such a pain to get that transfer case shifter adjusted properly. I lizard skinned and raptor lined it to match the floor, and screwed it in. I like it.

and since I am going to the bronco safari I decided I wanted to add a winch to my car trailer to make it easier to get the bronco in and out. and then it hit me. the bronco won't fit in my trailer lol I had to air the tires down to get it in there after it was painted, and with the windshield wiper and cover, and the riser for the bikini top, it just wasn't going to fit.

my trailer is a 2007 and it needed some work, the tires were weather checked and I was going to replace them before going to moab. and since I plan to take the bronco to some other shows this year I decided it was time to upgrade.

I put a down payment on a new Neo 20 foot trailer with a 7 foot interior which will give me 6 more inches of door height. I may still have to air the tires down to get the bronco in with the bikini top on, but it will fit. I get to pick it up friday. man the cost of trailers has really gone crazy. I bought my haulmark in 2007 for 5500 dollars. I decided it was still in pretty good shape despite needing some tlc so I listed it for 4000 dollars on facebook. within 10 minutes I had 6 messages, a guy showed up at my door an hour and a half later with the cash. apparently I did not ask enough lol.
anyway I got what I thought was fair, and I get to pick my new trailer up friday. I am anxious to do some personalizing on it. I will add the winch and I am going to do something with the truck tool box I have had in my old trailer for years. I am looking forward to playing around with this trailer this year. I have already ordered some new wheels for it, I have the winch and everything ready to go in also.

here are a few pictures from the dealer I bought it from.

i have been driving the bronco a bit now, taking it out and tuning the snipers. I took it out on the interstate yesterday. for a big old brick on wheels it cruises down the highway at 70 just fine. then I stopped at oreilly's and some guy wanted to take pictures of the bronco. I get thumbs up and positive comments any time I take it out. makes a guy feel kind of proud lol.
