Double check the torque anyway. It’s something fairly light in the 12 to 15 pound range I believe. I’ll try to look it up later, but it’s worth checking.

PDT depends on the person. I bet most would get it right about in that range with a wrench. But I know some people that could literally twist one of those U-bolts into a pretzel with the same tool.😉

torque is always key for a lot of things

Per the old Chilton's book: The U-joint U-bolts are 10 to 17 ft/lbs.
The bolts for the CV/double-cardan head are 20 to 25 ft/lbs.

Looking at my Hayne's, I'm just glad that when I got started in this business I used Chilton's first!
They quote 90-110 lbs for the rear u-joint! And in one sentence they call the yoke a yoke, while in the diagrams they refer to it as a flange. Nothing like consistency...
They also list a u-joint to rear axle "adapter" whatever that is. But at least we know it gets torqued to 60-70lbs.

Either all of that is for a specialty shaft on a heavy truck, or it's in inch/pounds. Or it's just another of many typos...
So I'll stick to the Chilton's 10 - 17 lbs.

can't go wrong w/ some of those chilton books

I temporarily installed my new tom woods driveshaft from wild horses. in doing so I discovered that the yoke tab that holds the ujoint cap on is broken. most likely an effect of the failure not the cause but I will have to replace the yoke. not a problem I had planned to do that anyway. just eyeballing the driveline angle it looks pretty good to me. what do you all think? I think if I put 6 degree shims in there it will be too much. what do you think. I am not sure if I am measuring the angle properly. I got the two angle finders like I read I was supposed to use, but I am not sure I am using them correctly.

should be alright if by the book I'd think...

well just like usual for me, things do not go as planned. I got my new pinion yoke in, this rearend has a solid spacer so at least I did not need to disassemble it and put a new crush sleeve in, however once I put the new yoke on, and put 6 degree shims from wild horses in, I put it back together, and then as you all pointed out my driveshaft is too long, it has no slip at all, this is a stock length driveshaft, the same length ordered as the one from toms broncos that I had in before, I have only a 1.5 inch lift on it, so a stock length should work, only it doesn't so anybody need a 33 1/2 inch tom woods extreme duty drive shaft that is scuffed up a bit but never installed? I ordered a custom one from wild horses I measured it and I need a 31.5 inch one. yes I measured it before I ordered the first time, but I just assumed I measured wrong so I ordered what I thought should be right,,,, and I was wrong. I do this stupid crap all the time lol. anyway I ordered my new shaft, and they will have to custom make it so who knows how long that will take. in the mean time I found more wonderful news, I bought a brand new 9 inch differential with 4.11 gears from national drivetrain and installed it. the lash was good, everything seemed fine. well tonight when I was putting it back in I noticed one of the maincap bolts didn't seem tight, so I checked, and all 4 were loose. I torqued them to 60 foot pounds before I put it back in, but that could have been a disaster. so tonight I got almost nothing accomplished. oh well if it were easy I would be done and then I would have nothing to do right smh.

last weekend I installed the 6 degree shims that wild horses sells. I then installed the front bracket from james duff.

In order to put the bolt on bracket onto the diff side you have to pull the differential and remove 4 of the studs and replace them with longer ones. I did that at the same time I did the axle shims. it made that part easier at least. unfortunately when I went to install the differential I found that one of the ribs on the diff interfered with the duff bracket, so I massaged that a bit and bolted it in. I also replaced the pinion yoke. I bought this new differential from national drivetrain and it came without a yoke and with a solid spacer so I did not need to replace the crush bushing, just torque it to 225 foot pounds which is pretty easy with my Dad's 3/4 inch torque wrench.

painted it to make it pretty again. and installed the torque arm.

tonight I also got my new driveshaft. it is a tom woods extreme duty driveshaft and it is 31.5 inches working length. I checked the angle and it looks near perfect, I didn't get a picture of it, but it is best I can tell about 2 degrees down.

now I will have to wait until spring I suppose, we have a ton of ice and snow and gravel and salt all over the roads right now. I don't care to get the bronco out in that, and the bikini top is a bit breezy this time of year.

a friend of mine just got the first new bronco in my home town. I had to sneak a pic with my classic. the weather was so nice this weekend I took the bronco for a pretty long shakedown cruise. the first time I have had a chance to drive it since the ujoint debacle. it seemed to handle just fine. no weird noises or anything. looking forward to putting some miles on it this summer.

I decided to add a set of special decor stripes to the bronco. I had been wanting some kind of accent for it but finally decided on the silver stripe to match the ford letters on the tailgate. I had a friend who is an expert model car builder come over to help me put them on. it helped a ton to have a couple extra pairs of hands. he brought his son along to help. anyway we got them on after a whole lot of anxiety and some mild profanity along the way. No, its not a perfect job, but it looks pretty good from even just a few feet away, so I am happy.

thanks. the gauges are from speedhut. they have a website where you can basically design your own gauges. so these are custom one off gauges for an off the shelf price. basically the same cost as a similar set of autometer gauges. they are in a custom made dash made by Double D fab Dan Dilner. here is a link to my dash page. https://classicbroncos.com/forums/threads/tetanus-dash-thread.307393/#post-3343990

we had our local car show on saturday. I had my 65 mustang, and my daughters 67 mustang and my bronco in it. we did well, brought home 3 trophys. there were over 200 really nice cars there. I wish I would have taken more pictures, but it was really hot lol so we stayed under the tent most of the time when we weren't talking to people about the cars.

It arrived last night. of course it is freezing rain out all night since I got it so I haven't gotten a chance to get any good pictures next to my classic bronco yet, but here are a few inside the garage pics first thing I did was put the mudflaps on, I hear these things are terrible at flinging stones. I am looking forward to testing it out and learning all its querks.

Indeed it does!
Anyone read/seen a specification on turning circle for these things? I wonder how they compare?
