Well if I could punch the PO in the face, I would. As I was jacking up the front end, the wheels started to hang down pretty bad. Thought to myself 'this cant be good'. Got it jacked up and started moving the wheels to see how bad the bearings were....yeah there used to be some but now there isnt

Pulled the tires off, both front drums were cracked so bad I could see daylight and the cracks ran the entire circumference of the drums. I have no idea how they didnt separate from itself.

Instead of fixing the front drums, I have decided to do front disk conversion. Are they all the same? Who sells the best conversion?

While I can see how your pissed maybe the PO didnt know they were trashed seems you bought it without looking at it close enough. But hey it is a excuse for a disc upgrade. All the kits are basically the same but check out the small stuff thats included thats where there could be some differances. Also you could scource parts from the junkyard for a lot less.

My PO gave me a similar opportunity to upgrade to disc brakes in the front. Loose wheel studs had wobbled through the axle flange. :O I went with the horsepower ebay kit. It is a K5 kit to my knowledge, came with used caliper brackets, new calipers, rotors and pads, spindles and lines. easy to install, really its cake. Paid about $400.

LINK

this one has new brackets, whereas mine had used full shields.

Well I only paid $600 for it so I didnt want to really kick the tires. Gave him the money and left as quick as I could.;D

Best $600 I ever spent!

Its an easy $4k Bronco. I wanted to punch my wife in the face when she gave me crap for buying it...but I didnt. I actually just convinced her to give me $300 to help buy my front disks..Im laughing all the way to the bank!

Friend (new Bronco brother at the time) had a similar experience. Drove his "new" Bronco up from L.A. to the Bay and the next day said it just didn't feel right. Called me and I said "sure, come right on over..." Got there, with the help of a tow truck the last five miles (good decision on his part) and when we jacked the front end up, his driver's side front wheel fell almost off, hub, rotor and all!!!! Little rollers (or what was left of them) fell right out the back past the melted seal.
Fun fun. And yes, he'd like to smack the PO too. After he kicked himself silly for spending $4500 for it. Seemed like a good deal at the time...
I love telling that story.

i just bought a complete axle out of a 77 on here for about 400 bucks. totally rebuilt for another couple hundred. i think thats about the same as most kits but no issues when it comes time to find parts. thats what i would recommend.

Going by your user name you have a 67? You more than likely have a Dana 30. (Dana 30's have king pins and Dana 44's have ball joints.) If you plan on wheeling it you should at least get a Dana 44. Preferably like 4X4man514 did with the disks already. You can also get a disk kit for the Dana 30 if your keeping it on the street. We are all here to help you spend your money :)
