.02 on keeping your insulation off your headers.

I applied a noise dampening mat to my firewall down to where the body mt is under the front floor boards.

It's been there since about '93. I used vertical lines of masonry high heat caulking (vertical lines of caulk to allow moisture to run down and out after deep water crossings) about every 4" and used pop rivets with large "backup" washers in a few critical areas. It looks the same now as it did on install. REALLY helped with heat on the pass floorboards before I did the body lift and ceramic coated headers later in the 90's...

Frank can have a hands-free cell phone conversation with the cruise at 90mph, and the other person doesn't even realize he's in a vehicle; much less, a 37-y.o. V8 4WD. Click this & browse the albums to see how:

Great info in this thread. I have a few questions:

Does soundproofing have any positive effect even when the top is off?

One thing that has discouraged me from doing any soundproofing is the problem of water getting trapped in layers of padding, carpet, foam, etc. Every time I go to the car wash, I end up with about an inch of standing water on the floor. Also, wheeling in the Northwest is extremely wet and muddy in the winter so getting in and out of the truck drags in a ton of mud, snow, sand, etc. that would make a mess of any carpet, padding, insulation, etc.

Anyone had good luck with water/mud/snow proof soundproofing?

Great question Dan as I'm about to rip out all my carpet and jute backing since it stays wet for so long after every run...
