Radius Arm Cap Thickness

Pulled my radius arms and caps and removed over a 1/4" of material from where the bushings rested within the cap. I know some is normal and typical.

Does anyone have a minimum thickness guidline or should i probably replace if i'm even asking?

What did yours look like and how much material did you remove and did you just use or replace?

Thanks for all comments/suggestions

Dave

First, when you say remove material what do you mean? Is there a fitment issue?

I have had to remove "slag" on quite a few sets but never had to really grind material off of the caps or arms. I don't recommend replacing the caps only. I bought a set of new caps from the one vendor that offers them and they fit terribly and didn't even come close to matching my old arms. They are in the scrap pile now.

If your arms and caps are in really bad shape I would find a whole new set. The cap and arm are matched pairs and were machined together at the factory.

No. Didin't have to grind anything off, just knocked it off with a small hammer. Slag came off in 1/4" thick chunks.
Ill get pics later tonight.
Thanks

Here's what mine look like. You can see "some" of the slag that was removed.

Thoughts?

I have seen worse. It looks like you are starting to loose some material but not too bad.

I'll get my bushings soon enough and confirm fitment.
Just comparing mine to the replacement item in my first post. Seems to have a fair amount more material at the small center gusset area. Unless thats just a beefier aftermarket piece.
Thank you sir

Recently did my C-bushings and had the same issue. Hit with hammer and then a wire wheel. Primed and painted and then installed. Still had plenty of squeeze on the new bushings.

Rust expands as it forms, from 3 to 6 times the thickness of the metal converted. So 1/4 thick rust is probably not a hazardous amount of material loss on a part like that.
