I have a 76 with out the power booster as well, so don't use that. I have a 74 as well but haven't had the original steering column in it for over 25 years. My 74 had the large distributor cap which could have been added later. These guys are really good at picking up small details.

See if he'll send you a pic of the tag on the glove box door, or better yet the tag on the drivers door post. or VIN number.

I have sent a request for this info to the owner, I need it to arrange the insurance on the thing for when I haul it anyway in 12 days...;D oh yeah the count down is on!

So I just got confirmation that it is in fact a '74 not a '76 as it was advertised....

Not sure if it makes much of a difference, but I really was looking forward to having OEM disc brakes.

Do you guys thing that its still a good starting point? For now I would like to repair the body work and getting it driving...

If you insist on it being 'all original' then you can't have OEM disc brakes.

If you don't care about only original to that Model Year you could put a front end from a '76-'77 on it.
Seems like one comes up in the classifieds on here every few months.

I'd drive it as is for a while long as the frame's ok.

BTW most the vendors sell disc brake conversions.

Or, if you're only going to drive it 100 miles a year, freshen up the existing brake system and call it good.

Welcome to the site and congrats on the rig!!! Clean the gas tank and gas line well and as has been said, freshening up the drum brakes should work with small tires. Drive it and have fun!!!;D;D;D

Thanks guys, the only other rig that I have owned with drum brakes up from was a 1978 Land Rover Series III, it was a pig in every regard and I guess the drum brake kept us from out driving the rigs capabilities.

I think the drum brakes should be fine for now, I do live in a mountainous area but 95% of the time I will be driving in town where there are no mountain passes.... and yes I could upgrade to disc's with one of the conversion products if/when I decide I need something more!

Thanks guys, I'll be picking it up in 6 days! Can't wait!

I hope the year model was the only misinformation you got. It looks like a cool starting point, but it's definitely rough and needs some TLC.
The biggest hidden gremlin from sellers like this is, of course, rust. We already know it's got a bit of it, but hopefully you won't find too much more when it arrives.
I can imagine the excitement and frustration while counting down the days!

Good luck. Definitely post up some pics of the big reception when the party starts.;D
Since you've been here awhile now, you know how much we love to see that kind of thing.

So in my excitement of picking up the '74 this weekend, I ordered a bunch of basics for giving the engine a tune up right off the bat:

Stopping:
Brake Shoes (Front)
Brake Shoes (Rear)

Spark:
Spark Plug Wires
Spark Plugs
Distributor (w/ Distributor Mounting Gasket)
Ignition Coil

Air/Fuel:
Air Filter
Fuel Pump
Carburetor Repair Kit

Filters:
Trans Filter
Oil Filter
Fuel Filter

Misc.:
Engine Kit Gasket Set

Not to start a debate on what brand to use, but I am looking for suggestions of type of oil to fill the diff's with since this EB has been sitting for nearly 20 years...

I'm going to obviously drain any old oil from the engine, trans, t-case, and diffs and replace with new oil before trying to get anything to turn over (still need to go and buy all of those fluids locally).

Any input at all into what else that I should consider doing before trying to get it to crank over and run would be great!

Cheers!

Any brand new oil is better than the old stuff.
Remove the distributor and prime the engine oil by sticking the priming tool rod down into where the distributor installs and spin the oil pump with a drill until the oil pressure builds and you've pumped oil all through the engine.

EDIT: Never mind. I see you said "It turns over". I would have primed the engine first if it had sit a long time. Maybe you did.

The seller runs a business selling Scouts and associated parts, he is the one who turned it over so I can only assume that he took precautions while seeing if it turned over or not....

So I just got off the phone with the guy and he said some movie producer was trying to get his hands on this Bronco for a movie they are filing in the area! I may have saved this thing from getting crushed... or from a high dollar restoration.... haha

I just got the VIN so I am going to run a report to see what all I can find out about this truck!

Well it was a long day but we managed to bring home the Bronco!

Here is the only picture I managed to get the whole day due to having such a tight schedule to get on the last Ferry home... one of them worst things about living on an island.
