Yo guys

I am looking to buy myself some recovery gear
Looking for a kit if possible or I guess I can buy the stuff seperate, but would be nice to get a kit to save money.

I am looking for 2 shackes, a snatch block, a tree saver, and maybee a tow strap.

The part that I really have a question if it is compatable with the synthetic line is the snatch block. Other than that just looking for your opinions what kit, ot parts you guys like and why

Thanks

I have looked at thier stuff from time to time. The 'Patrol 1' set seems to be exactly what you are looking for. I don't see why the stuff won't be compatable... but then again I am not all to famo;ar with the syn rope.

Does it have a smalled/larger diameter then a cable? Thats is the only problem I could think of.

As long as the snatch block is smooth (no Burrs or anything) I can't think of any reason it wouldn't work.

I forgot to mention so far this is the snatch block I am leaning towards. I talked to a guy at ARB and he told me it was good to use with synthetic line

One reason I made this post is I did a search and couldn't find much info on recovery gear. Even if it doesn't help me, I am sure it will help others

That is a really nice snatch block..I guess with synth you really have to be careful it doesn't get between the pulley and the plate, would probably cut it right off.

it is also 17 bucks cheeper than the warn 17,000 lbs snatch block, and is allmost twice the braking rating at 30,000 lbs

with my wireless controler, I can make sure all the slack is taken out before I really start winching

I had the Warn Heavy duty kit in my work truck, and it was a good kit. The Recovery gear Patrol III seems good to.

If you build you own kit, I would reccomend you get a heavy duty snatch block like the Warn PN 15640, you don't want to see one of those come apart under load! I'd also reccomend a good tree strap, and a 3" tow strap. Also get 4 good shackles, you never seem to have enough of them when your doing the winching olympics. Throw in 2 pairs of gloves, one for you and another for your helper.

good luck

I was told that that snatch block is only for wire rope

Are 2 shackles OK , and do you think a 10 foot tree saver is long enough???

I have that arb snatch block. It is a smooth roller. Wild Horses has good prices on ARB stuff. 10 foot is plenty for a tree saver

I had 3 shackles at work, and it always seemed I needed one more. That's also been my experience when wheeling.

You use one to attatch the strap to the bumber, one more to connect 2 straps together, one for your bumper and then you theres times when you have all of that going on to keep you from rolling off the edge and you need one to hold the tree strap and snatch block together so you can winch the rig back up the hill.

You bastards, just spent 400 bucks with WH
while I was on the phone I ordered two extra shackles, a reciever shackle, and a set of hood shocks :-*

I ordered the less expensive kit, everything is the same except the snatch strap which is only 17,000 lbs

so with the Kit, 2 extra shackles, and the reciver shackle, I will now have 5 shackles, hehe

Who's the bastard?;) I never said anything about hood shocks! Those won't help get you unstuck:-X

Sounds like you'll be well prepared to pull the rest of us poor folks out.

The Rcovery Gear came in from Wild Horses the other day, and What a awesome kit it is. Everything is top notch, and it was priced right. I also got a shackle for my rear bumper that had a reciever in it.

Unfortunatlly the shackles don't fit my Bailey Built bumper, but that isn't WH's fault. It turn out Gordons bumper take a little bit smaller shackle than whats in the kit. I went to Fastenal and they have the right size shackle, actually they have 2 different ones that will work. A 6000 lbs rated shackle at about 8 bucks each, or the ones I got 9000 lbs rated, at about 12 bucks each. The 9000 pounders are even orange and match my truck ;D

Here are some pics

Also is anyone else having problems attaching photos, I keep having to make them smaller, and smaller and smaller, and it keeps telling me I am exceeding the file size??????????

My BB bumper shackle holes just barely fit the shackle that I had, It was tight, But after a few pulls and tugs from other rigs getting yellow77 out of some predicaments it has become a nice fit.

Yours is orange, Mine is yellow

As for the pic loading, I found out that loading them 1 at a time works faster..

Be advised, a 10' tree saver, will only reach around a 3' tree with enough slack to get the ends shackled together, (might want to go longer in the NW).

I see what you mean.
Not a problem on this side of the country.
Most areas we can go to are harvested at around 30 years.%) You NW guys would call them toothpicks.;D
