Looking for some info from you guys that have pulled the seprentine set up off of a 5.0 Explorer. I got all the bracketry and pulleys off, all of the bolts out of the timing chain cover. Couldnt get the timing chain cover off with the pulley and harmonic balancer on. SO, my question is how and what tools do I need to pull the pulley and balancer? (since I need them anyway)

Thanks,

Brandon

P.S. - $140.00 for EVERYTHING (PS pump, alt, etc, etc.) Score!

First you need to remove the bolt that keeps the balancer on. You'll need to keep the engine from turning somehow while you loosen it. If you have access to an impact wrench that would make it easier. Then you'll need a 3-bolt puller to pull the balancer off. Most auto parts stores will loan out specialized tools like this.

>>>>> you just need a regular old steering wheel/harmonic balancer puller kit...... pic below shows the 3 bolt holes around the center you'll probably need to uncover to use the tool..............

Thanks guys.

Also, how do I get the fan off? Theres no bolt/nut in the front of it. I'm a little confused by that. I want to put a new water pump on the timing chain cover while I have all of that stuff off.

The big nut that screws onto the pump holds it on. You need a tool to hold the pump pulley while you turn the nut. It's regular right-hand thread.

don't even try to get it off without the puller. I'm not saying it can't be done, i'm saying you will kick yourself for spending all that time trying when the right tool makes the job easy. Keep in mind if you are putting it on a 351, you will need to get the balancer rebalanced.
