I replaced a leaking intake manifold gasket and now my Bronco won't run. It started initially, then started started fading and died. When I tried starting it again it backfired out the carb. No real sound, but a bright flash. Now I can't get it to start at all, even with starting fluid. I've double checked the firing order and can't find any wires that I forgot to reconnect.
Any suggestions. It starting initially really has me stumped!

X2 sounds like you have the distributor in the wrong position. You may either be off a few teeth or just enough to not fire properly or 180 out as stated. Need to put the engine back at top dead center of teh compression stroke and check the position of the rotor in the dizzy see if its pointed at the #1 plug wire on the cap.

Only two problems you can have - fire or fuel. You can do the fuel by using starter fluid. Next, pop a plug wire off and hold it with some insulated pliers next to something metal and check for spark. From that trace the problem back

When I swapped to EFI, I installed my distributor one tooth off from where it should have been. Mine was backfiring (but running, sort of) when a random guy walking by told me that my timing was too far retarded. He was right... hope yours is that simple.

I would think your dizzy got restabbed differently than when removed. I would just restab the dizzy, manually set the timing, and rewire the cap. That way you know it's all set correctly. Good opportunity to change your plugs too (that way you have an excuse to pull them in order to ensure your TDC on the compression stroke).

12PSI, the engine ran until it flooded out. That was the initial start and then no more running.
