Reviving a C4

My Bronco has been sitting idle for the past 22 years... I’m rebuilding the motor, inspecting the electrical and rebuilding/replacing the entire fuel, steering and brake systems... that leaves the C4 transmission. Transmissions are the one area I know the least about.

I’m already planning to pull the pan, replace the filter and drain/refill the converter. What else should I be considering?

It had a fresh rebuild right before it was parked.

I would also put in a new front seal, shifter quadrant seal and downshift o ring. You need to take the valve body out (not apart) to do the quadrant seal but they like to leak. Get Type F fluid it is more difficult to find but get it.

If you have the paperwork on the rebuild, check if there is a recommended fluid to use. Most rebuild kits change the fluid type. Use what is recommended with your paperwork, if it exists.
