Anyone build a Rigid building (http://www.rigidbuilding.com/pea.htm)?

I need a garage/storage/workshop and the seismic requirements make stick built a little complicated. I like the idea of a metal building, but the wife demands it match the house and be aesthetically pleasing.

Rigid offers a Stucco wall panel and tile-looking roof panels. I haven't got the quote yet, but I'd like some feedback if anyone has used them.

Thanks.

Link doesn't work for me JP. I had to delete the question mark and parenthesis to get there from here.

jpoore, they look like they are very well built buildings....They also look expensive!

I used a company called Worldwide to build my 30x60 ft. all metal building back in 2002. I had an all concrete floor, one walkout door, two 10x12 rollup doors and four windows and paid 15,000 for the whole thing! But that was in 2002 and I'm sure these building have gone up a lot in price since then.

Matching your homes exterior will get pretty expensive. My wife also wanted to do that but the cost probably would have been double if not more than what we paid for the one I got. Mine is a 24x36, insulated, insulated doors, and as you can see a small porch with cedar around it. I would have gone bigger but our property lines limited the size. The insulation keeps it about 10-20 degrees warmer or cooler depending on the season. Cost was $18,500 and it was built in February. They can do some cool designs with steel/tin so my advice is to look into those as well. For example if your house is brick or stucco you could make the wainscot stucco or brick with a different color on top and different color roof, doors, whatever.

The cooler on the porch has beer in it, right?

Not at the moment, but it did last weekend. We had so much left over from a party we gave away about 3 cases (mostly Fu-Fu drinks though) and our fridge is still full!!!

Sorry, let me clarify the temperature thing. It's 10-20 degrees cooler/warmer than if it were not insulated, not 10-20 degrees cooler/warmer than the outside temperature. Non-insulated are friggin ovens in the summertime!!!

I am surprised you can't get a metal building to match - I thought most of us here on CB lived in trailer parks.

Caution, Thread hi-jack. What! You didn't invite all the local EB gang to come over for a cold one? Heck we've even been known to bring our own cold ones if we know there's going to be some fellow EB'ers there.
Back to your regularly scheduled building materials programming:)

Yeah the quote came back almost twice that of steelbuilding.com. Forget that. I'd be better of stuccoing over the normal metal panels.

Bottom line is that the aesthetics come first. If I have to downsize to a 2 car with storage without a dedicated shop, then that's the way it is. I'll do the shop in metal in a few years, but I know how "a few years' normally turns out.

I'm going to try figuring out the stick built. What is holding me up is the limit of 24' maximum length for a braced wall line. My overall is 40'x60' with much of that clear span. Worst case, I need 6' walls perpendicular to my exterior walls every 25'.

i got my building from steelbuilding in 03 and am quite pleased with it. their pricing was excellent.
don't forget your skylights! free lighting is what you get, well worth it.
having a good crew erect it for you will be key on how nice it comes out imop. the guys that did mine had all kinds of tricks that really make the details nice. it's amaziong how quick it goes up when they are on their game.
best of luck to you. let us know when the grand opening party is. ;)

A 40x60 is large enough that you need to make sure it is strong enough .. I love my building ..One of the best things I did back as a young man .. But Mine is about 25 years old now .. The EX took off about the time the building was delivered so it set for almost a year before it went up .. BY that time the sheet metal had rusted .. So I left it unpainted for about 5 years then had it painted to match my house ..It needs a 2nd paint job now .. But my building has an EYEBEAM in the centr that will hold up 5000 lb so they said .. But I do run a trolly wench on it from side to side .. a very nice feature ..
...To show how much time have changed I gave $3250.00 for my building and about 1000 for the floor anf only $800.00 to have it put up.
..... But I don't know what a guy does with out a building..

$1000 for the floor!!! My 24x36 (plus the little porch) slab was around $4500!!! Cost another $4000 +\- for the electricity to be wired. If you can do that yourself you'd could save quite a bit.

I wouldn't do the electical your self, unless you definitly know what you are doing. Being a electrain for the last 13 years I have seen alot of home owners do stupid shit, that is just one step from thier house bunning down. Do the slab yourself it is easy and will only cost around a 1000.00. And if you mess that up it will just crack, not burn the building down.
P.S. slabs are easy to do just make sure you put gravel below and compact it really good.

$1000 for concrete that wasn't even the cost of 1 truck load for me.
I just poured 50 yards 33 inside and 20 outside.

I'm working on getting the interior skinned in metal, electrical installed and the insulation finished up.
