If its a parts store reman it may be not working as well. Couple of tricks to try. pull the relief valve spring and stretch it some. If there is a washer behind the pressure line fitting remove it. Both of those will increase pressure. But beware if you don't know what the pressure is before you start you can physically damage the box by breaking the end cap, splitting the top cap or twisting off the sector shaft, crazy things start happening when you get over 2000PSI. FYI most rebuilt pumps are less than 1400PSI, actually closer to 900, just depends on the quality of the pump and it targeted application.

What rpm is it struggling? Will a smaller pulley help?
Low RPM is where it seems to struggle, and steep inclines/declines... I am wondering if a little more capacity would make a differnece like with link provided?

Years ago, I added a ram assist to one of my Broncos.
I used the pump mods oulined here, and had good luck with that.
