Sandblasted axle housing, Por-15 or paint?

I sandblasted a 9 inch housing and backing plates. I have some Por-15 semi-gloss and top coat I can use to coat the housing, or should I take it in to work and have the amigos shoot it with epoxy primer and some paint? I painted my frame with Por-15 a few weeks back. Just looking for some feedback.

Trio prime or PPG DP epoxy primer then top coat with PPG ALK 200 chassis black.

At this point it's already clean, so the biggest advantage of POR 15 (Paint Over Rust) has been removed.

POR has its place in rusty applications, if its clean, shoot paint. Just me.

I am about to be in the same situation I was thinking about going with powder coat, I am not sure if that is the right solution as well.

I did POR 15 on mine, but they were wire brushed, pressure washed and metal ready applied, not blasted

find a PPG industrial paint supplier and use there epoxy primer with urethane black on top, its a bit glossy but after a year or so on mine its a nice satin, they paint oil rigs with it and its as tough as nails , I ran out after doing my frame and axles, after welding on my drop bracket I used POR and its the only spot on the frame that has rust and has to be touched up.
I spilled laquer thinner at one point on the frame and it didn't even dull it,

I wire wheeled, washed, POR 15 Metal Prep, 2 coats of POR 15 with a brush, and 1 coat of Top Coat from the spray can. They came out rock solid with an even texture. I'm happy with the results and the quality matches my powder coated frame.

I just had my rear axle powdercoated for $100. They also cleaned out the old oil and grime with a heated parts cleaner. Now it's time for assembly.

Looks great... seems like the people that have had bad results with POR didn't use MetalReady or prep it correctly. The ones that shoot PPG and other top of the line industrial coatings seem to understand that prep is the "key" to everything and of course then their results are great! : )

Just saying... good luck!

That's me ! Had frame blasted and mixed rust proof products over several applications (all the same, right !). Just "using up what's left" and "not a show truck" stupidity. Now a brown oxided mess and starting over. I like POR but no short cuts or products substitution. Believe me !

After I blasted my frame, the dana 44 and 9 inch, I used 5 Star Xtreme Hot Rod black paint (part # 8001) Check out the specs on it. It is a Direct to Metal paint, looks good (has satin finish, not glossy) and is very durable. It is single stage, just add hardener, reduce, spray and your done.

I might be a little bias here but powder coat is the way to go. I can't count how many axles I have done at the shop. Just my opinion.
