Today I took the top off to repair a few holes in the top. Sorry I don't have a "before" pic but here is the repaired hole at the bottom of the rear pillar.

I think one of the previous owners of the top had started some repair work but never completed anything. This top has/had 2 holes cut in the base of the rear pillar. I could not figure out why it had the holes but now I'm thinking it was the start of rust repair.

I kicked my wife's car out of the attached garage since the Bronco is now topless and we have a chance of rain. Needed the room in the shop to work on the top. But it's in good company!!

So you guys got me curious about Cibie lights. Being from the VW world I have seen them on some rally cars and 911s. Wow. I had no clue how pricey they were!

I wqorked on the rear bumper today. Got it narrowed 1 1/2" per side, shaved, smoothed the upper bolts and filled the center holes.

Here it is on with the welds ground down.

No bolt heads!!

I know 1 1/2 inches per side does not seem like much, but even this small amount improves the looks in my opinion. A thin coat of filler and paint will finish it off!

I had some 4 inch LED driving lights I was going to use on another project so I mounted them up on the Cactus Smasher to see what they would look like.

Not period correct that's for sure! I don't think I like them. It really needs some round Cibies to look right. Your thoughts??

Looks great! Curious how you smoothed out the rear bolt heads though. I like the clean look!

Pretty easy actually. I cut off a 1/2" bolt to the length I wanted and then held it in place through the square hole in the bumper and flush with the top of the bumper. Then just welded from the top and ground smooth. I would not mount a trailer hitch to the bumper but it's plenty strong enough to hold the beer on. I did not smooth the lower holes. The bumper mounts by starting the top bolts at an angle in at the top, dropping them in and then rotating the bottom of the the bumper under the frame horn. I needed to wallow out the top holes in the frame horn slightly to get it to drop in. I'll try to get some pics when I take the bumper off to paint it.

"Faux-tina"

As indicated earlier in this thread, I got a new top in better condition (rust wise) than the one that came on the Bronco. But the "patina" of the new top does not match the patina on the Bronco. Also as stated earlier a PO had started to repair a couple of rust areas and prep the top for paint, but didn't get very far. Looks like he took a sanding wheel to a bunch of places and just left it that way.

Anyway, to get the top to better match the body I need to change the patina a bit so I thought I'd try my hand at Faux-tina! Here's my first try.

I gotcha. Makes sense now. Wasn't sure how you were able to get it on there but wallowing the holes out makes sense. I like the narrowed bumpers! Definately makes a cleaner look.

Bumper not beer!! I waited on the beer 'till I was done! Damn autocorrect. LOL

Thanks! It did not take much wallowing to get it to slip in. The shorter the bolts the easier - just make sure you have enough length to get a washer, lock washer and nut on with a thread or 2 out of the nut when tight.

Now that the top is "done" (!) it's time to move on to a few repairs to the body. First up is repair to the bed rails where a PO had cut them for some unimaginable reason?? Not sure why they would have done this??

Both sides are cut like this over the wheel wells.

One side has this hole blown into it with a torch!

Even though I am leaving this Bronco in patina for now I want to repair all the places in the body that need some work - these hacks plus some minor rust on the rockers, floorboards and tailgate and fill some holes where the mirrors and antenna were mounted. So in the future I can, or a future owner can, do some easy body prep and give it a nice paint job.
