Speaker Install Locations/advice

Anybody have any good luck with their speaker install locations?

This is what I'm thinking. I have some kick panel speaker pods for 6.5s. I'm thinking of doing a component set with the 6.5s in the pods and tweeters somewhere on the dash (looking for options here).

As for the rear, I have some rear fender panels that I will probably be cutting to add some speakers. Anybody have any input on sizes/locations for these? I'm guessing it would be best to be in front of the rear seats.

For now, I'm going to go with an amp to power these, with an option to add a sub in the future, unless anybody has a great place to install one of those, preferably hidden/out of the way.

I installed focal 6.5” in my kick panel. Then I added a 4” focal and an infinity 6x9 in the back. The 6x9 is tricky because of the size of the magnet. I went through 3 different ones until I found one that would fit. I mounted my amp under the passenger seat. I installed a wood backing for the back panels to mount to. I didn’t think the panels would hold the weight of the 6x9’s.

if you really want a sub, you could probably fit one under the passenger seat. I’ve seen this done in other cars, using a shallow sub.

This is what I did for my 73. Custom Autosound speakers mounted under the rear seat. I ran the wires under the floor mat to the Retrosound unit in my dash. I also replaced the dash speaker with one from Retrosound. IMO, it is a clean look without having to cut side panels or drill holes in my tub. Sound is good even without an amp.

I need to do something like this as well, nice setup. PO put a Bazooka tube behind the seat in mine. Can't really hear it and just takes up the little amount of space that is back there now.

I’m running a half cab. Retro sound in the dash, 4&1/4” in the kick panels, and 8” sub in back of console between seats. Amp under passenger seat. Seems to work very well but not intrusive.

I made a couple boxes that fit into the roadster inserts for speakers

Amp and EQ are tucked in my Thunderbird Console

Sub is under the passenger seat and is a powered compact unit. It definitely fills in the bass, but it's not a huge sound.

Head unit is soon to be my new stock/bluetooth RestoModern Radio

I do think about adding some proper fronts every once in a while, but it's mainly just for fun. I don't really miss anything when I'm driving.

I'm in the process of doing this now. I haven't hit the checkout button yet but I think I'm doing RetroSound in the dash, 8" sub under the passenger seat, 4" Focals in the doors (below the panels), and 6.5" Focals in the rear panels behind the seats. Definitely not a high-end / high-powered solution but I think it will be what I need.

Retrosound Head Unit
Focal 6.5 Speakers
Focal 4" Speakers
8" Alpine Powered Sub

I built some proof-of-concept pods for the front footwells years ago that house very shallow 5 1/4" Alpine speakers w/tweeters. I had to relocate the parking brake over a inch or so. For the back, all you need is fill so I have Kenwood 6x9 speakers in some old school aluminum plate panels. A Bazooka tube is behind the rear seat with a Soundstream 5 channel amp mounted under the rear seat. I need to replace the front pods with something more durable than mdf.

So currently redoing my stereo at the moment. I have had a wet sounds soundbar in the past 2 Bronco's previous to my current one. I transferred the soundbar from one bronco to another. It was a stealth ten wired to my head unit mounted on front roll bar it was not bad at all just not much bass. Then I mounted the icon 8 speakers for mid bass and clear as a bell sound at volume. they were mounted on rear roll bar on swivel mounts insane overkill but amazing on highway with top off or at beach. I am in South Georgia, so Smyrna and Daytona are typical weekend trips. or for party's I just turn them in the direction I want. Well, someone made me an offer on that bronco I could not refuse. Purchased another Bronco of course and in my new Bronco SLYDLOK here is my rundown. I have a Tuffy stereo console with a pioneer avh 3300 head unit with a 10-inch sub in an enclosure under passenger seat with its own volume knob on Tuffy console. I have an audio control D6 1200 amp with Bluetooth DSP under passenger seat. I have the wet sounds Icon 8 speakers with LED halo's with remote switch for led ring. they are on swivel mounts as well. The reason I went with them again is they are clear with amazing mid and highs at volume they are powerful at 200 watts each and to be honest I also forgot how big they are. My door panels are custom fiberglass and currently getting hydro dipped in a carbon fiber pattern. I am going with the focal ES 130k component setup for the door. I have the new tmi rear interior quarter panels coming, and I did not want to cut them up to mount the speakers in them.

Here is what I installed yesterday. A different direction than what you are doing but happy with it.
