Speedo Cable Snapped?

I'm in the middle of troubleshooting turning signal issues (https://classicbroncos.com/forums/showthread.php?t=303048). I've removed the speedo cable so I can access the turn signal bulbs; when I screwed it back in, the speedo stopped working. I've been looking at replacement speedo cables and noticed that the "key" at the driverside end of MY cable is not as long as the replacement cables. Is it possible that it snapped off and I need a replacement cable?

I've had that happen. Some of the Dennis Carpenter replacements were made with the square drive too short.
You're vendor will want to know about that.

If your casing is in good shape you can buy a new cable to replace the cable only. Get one at you local auto parts store. Ask for a speedo cable core. they come in a couple of lengths that you cut and crimp an end on.
