Speedo needle went dead.

Tonight on the freeway, as I blew past some fool in a riceburner, I noticed that my needle started dropping down to zero.
All he was able to do was switch his high beams on. He couldn't catch up. What a joke.

I had glanced at my speedo and it read 90 mph when it started dropping. My first thought was maybe the speedo cable got disconnected. I have not checked since its dark out.

Any ideas on what to look for come daylight?

Probaly just vibrated lose from the back of the speedo or the off the tranny, go ahead and lube it up while it is off, if it is off.

its a self preservation thing......your bronco nixed the speedo thinking that if it didnt work you would'nt keep trying to bury the needle, thus taking all the fun out of it and allowing the bronco to yet live another day.

I checked the speedo cable at both ends, and everything looked right. So I pulled it out of the t-case to see what I could find. I played with the cable end ( spinned it ) and had my GF keep an eye on the needle and it did react when I spinned the teeth. So my guess is that the problem lies inside the t-case, where the cable engages. That part is probably worn.
Anyways, I lubed it ( didn't need it ) and put it back in, and now it works again. Dunno if it'll hold a high speeds, yet.

Jeepster, that does make sense, doesn't it?

yes that works for me. Sometimes I find that the simple act of touching the afflicted part has sorta faith healing properties. You know where you really dont do anything 'sept take it apart then put it back together and it works.%) ;) ;D It could be part of the bonding process. You know like "I'm sorry I know I put my foot down a little hard but I'm sorry and I won't do it again thing".......sure we all been there.%)
