Does anyone have a stainless steel panel overlaying their original dash. I am thinking of either getting a SS or aluminum overlay. They guy at the metal shop said that I would have a hard time drilling for gauges and cutting out for other things. Anyone have experience with a Stainless dash?

I like the look of stainless better, and I could match it easier to the other things inside the cab.

Aluminum is much easier to work with.

After trying it in SS you'll know what I mean, Unless you have the right tools to cut/drill SS with I would rather work with aluminum or just plain steel sheetmetal and paint.

Stainless steel is very hard to cut, Im planing on using aluminum, If you are planing on cutting for gauges go with the aluminum if you have a dash in mind that is already cut for the gauges you want go for it.

I did mine in stainless and it came out fine. I don't think I would do it again, it's very hard to cut. Aluminum would be much easier to work with and with a brushed finish would look nice.

Here are a few pics. One other thing I don't like is, my son likes to play in the Bronco and fingerprints are a big problem.

codee, go to lowes and get a bottle of "stainless magic". it's a cleaner/conditioner. it's designed for kitchen products and works great on keeping finger prints off. think it's about 4-5 bucks a bottle. we use it in our house and it works great with our little crumb cruncher around touching everything.

That IS a nice looking dash! I particularly like those Carling switches all lined up. We recently redid the dash in my rig and it now has a "few" of those ;) I thought about doing mine in stainless (since its Sooo damn sexy!) but since Ben (the dog) likes to try standing on the dash knobs I went with a matte finish powdercoat... hopefully, it will stand-up to or hide the scratches... we'll see! I know one thing for sure, aluminum doesn't last too long when you don't get their nails trimmed often enough! %)

I dig those steering wheels too (wished I would have thought of doing em!):-[ Little heads up on them though. You might want to try keeping the colored annodized versions out of the sun as much as possible. I just saw a California rig with one in Arizona that used to be red. It is now more of a peach color :'( I'm hoping that isn't an issue with all annodized stuff or I'm gonna be pretty bummed in a couple years...

And... Hey, I recognize that signature! I'm guessing you must have been one of the guys who snuck my dad off to sign his dash while we were at the Free 4 All! ;D It looks great on the Stainless!

Yes, the wheel is starting to fade a little. When I saw your reply I was wondering if you would recognize that signature.
