Starting a 66 u13 bronco restoration.

Hello everyone. I am new to this forum and am looking for any help from you bronco veteran enthusiasts . I have had a 1966 bronco roadster thats has been in my family all my life, but hasn't seen the road in about 20 years. It is in rough shape but there is mostly just surface rust on the body and all the drivetrain is in tact and has ran in the last 2 years. My question is do yall think this would be better off restoring to stock or making it more of a off-road style bronco. I know it is a rarer model. Also where do you all go to get parts. Anyone know of any quality mechanics/ 4x4 shops around Dallas? Any help would be appreciated. I will try to attach some pictures of how it sits right now. I am picking it up in 2 weeks.

Ha thanks for the help with the picture . Yeah I think I will keep it original but add a small roll bar in it and a small 2.5 inch lift so I can fit a slightly bigger tire. Nothing that cant be reversed .

Body looks solid. I would keep it stock personally, a 66 U13 is a rare breed indeed. Slight lift and narrow tires would look nice. It would be a shame to see that made into an off reader, but at the end of the day it is yours to do what you want with. Good luck, either way, it looks like a great start.

All original with a 2 1/2" Lift and 30-31s would be my vote.

Well the bronco may have been in my family since 1966 but I am not sure. It belonged to my father's step father. He basically only used it as a four wheeler that he towed behind his truck to his hunting lease.my father got it when he died in the 90 and it set in a shop for another 10 or so years until I was 15 or 16. I wanted it to be my first car. We had it running ok and driving but we didn't have much money and couldn't finish it. After I stopped messing with it no one touched it until now.it has been sitting in a backyard in east texas for way to long. I am now ready to fix up the project that should have been completed 15 years ago.

And I was wrong about the Vin number it is U13FL750791. Does anyone know how to ready the Vin to find out what number bronco that is?

Since it is a U13, I would definitely go original with the restoration. If you do a modified build, it becomes just like every other Bronco.

Built September of 1965, so pretty early build.

Go to www.broncohio.com for a reference on VIN and Data Plate info.

U13 - Roadster

F - 170 straight six

L - Michigan Truck

750791 - September 1965 Build and number sequence

C - Trans Code (On Data Plate) - 3-Speed Manual


Data plate will also have codes for original Body Color, Axle Ratio and DSO.

You can also get a complete list of factory options and details by going to www.martiautoworks.com and order a deluxe Marti report based on the Broncos VIN. This would be pretty cool for your rare U13 Bronco. There is a cut off date for the Marti reports and I do not know how far back their data goes???

I love it. I'd wash it, and really clean it out. I love the patina. I think I might just spray it with clearcoat!
