Hey all,
I currently run the Stone Crisher Heim-joint steering. That means i've drilled out the knuckles for the 3/4" bolts. I'd like to switch over to BC's tappered studs. Does anyone know If I can ream out my knuckles even more for the tappered studs? Will I need some kind of bushing? Has anyone else done this?
Thanks,
-Steve in FL-

Not positive, but think that having drilled your ends out to 3/4" you won't be able to use tapered studs, because holes are too big to ream out the required taper. Sell the rod to someone who wants to go heim and start fresh, but as I said not positive.

X2 more than likely the drilled out holes for your current setup are already to big for the tapered studs.
Kind of a misguided buy there. but you could have someone weldup your current holes then get it reamed back out to fit your stud. A whole lot of work for just a stud I'd probably sell them as suggested.

Why do you want to switch to a heim stud? Like broncnaz said, you'll have to weld up the knuckles and re-taper them or get a set of undrilled knuckles. A 3/4" grade 8 bolt is massive compared to a heim stud.

I e-mailed chuck at BC a while back about this same thing and he said they have adapters you can buy to fix this problem. I can't find his response e-mail or i'd post it here. Hopefully he'll see this and chime in.

pretty sure i remember the same. he has two, adapters and bushings i think. i think the adapters are thin and the bushings are pretty thick...

Indian Harbour Bch,
K, cool thanks for the advice. I notice that there's a little bit of play between the 3/4" bolt and the hole I drilled, I'm just trying to make the steering as tight as possible.

what's your reason for ditching the stonecrusher steering? i only ask because i haven't decided on my steering and am wondering if you are having problems with yours.
