no that's not it, i think i remember some on saying that there is a snap ring or something to hold it down. what it doing is pulling the shaft up out of the shifting coller
Do you have the upper column spring, that should put force on the clamp at the bottom end, if that clamp isnt up against the lower bearing the shaft will move. I know every other steering column I've pulled appart had a snap ring, but I guess that was pre Bronco.
