While replacing my accelerator pump and check valve, The little "tit" of the check valve broke and was stuck in the hole. While trying to carefully remove it, it fell in. Will it be ok to leave it or do i have to take apart the carb and retrieve it? Thanks!

Well, generally speaking you can't just leave something like that in. But I'm not sure exactly what that part is (from memory) so can't say for sure 100%.

Can't quite picture the bit you're talking about. I'm sure someone will know though.

Good luck.

Thanks Paul...It's a round orange flapper looking disc with a pointed tip. The pointed tip is installed in a small hole on the carb body behind the accelerator pump. The tip broke off when I was removing it and fell inside.

Ahh yes. The old arrow-tip stretchy thingy! Been awhile since I've yanked on one of them thar things.
Well, the good news is that at least it's not a metal bit that might get through the jets and into the engine. Nor is it likely to clog something up right away either. But it might end up floating free someday after some particularly hard bumps and jumps and end up sticking itself on top of a main jet. Would make for a crappy running engine for sure!

I can't remember again, but I think the walls on the pump cavity are pretty tall, but with a slot cut into them to transfer fuel into the pump? If so, it's probably ok for the short term.

But I go back to my first statement about not leaving stuff like that in there. I would just suck it up and pull it apart again myself.
Mind you, I wouldn't be any too happy about it. But I'd do it.

I'd fetch it out of there. That little piece of rubber is just the right size to clog up a jet...

Mahalo bmc69...I did some research and I gotta pull the top half of the carb open anyway to install the new check valve.

Taking the top cover off is real easy. Remember the air cleaner stud. It's the 5th screw holding the top cover on. Using some Vasaline on the umbrella check valve when you pull the new one through the hole helps avoid breaking it. The cheapest way to get the parts to do this is buying a rebuild kit and doing the whole thing. I have pushed a few umbrella check valves out from the inside but that's not easy. Pulling them out from the outside can't be done.
