My buddy isn't a member here. While at his house yest he asked a question I couldn't answer. Does a stock mustang 5.0 flex plate work for the motor swap? He wants to drop a 5.0 into his 70 u15. He has a 1976 c4 he picked up and wants to make sure it will all bolt up... The flex plate is 50 oz and 164 tooth...

If he's sure it's a 164 tooth and not the more common 157 used in cars, then it should be fine. Because he's got a '76, the torque converter is more likely to have the correct bolt pattern and offset for the flexplate. BUT, those are both things that need to be checked in-situ as opposed to just assuming because you heard it from me on the internet!;D

There were variations on that theme, so it's best to verify. Should be easy enough to do though.

The AOD flexplate should be a match to a truck C4. The hangup may be the convertor bolt circle. The fix is to get the right torque convertor. What you want is the 11-7/16 bolt circle convertor, not the 10-1/2" oddball.

Now if it isn't a Bronco C4 or an AOD(AODE/4R70W) flexplate all bets are off.
