Hey Broncoman,
Couple of things to consider, one, the stock steering box location will limit how far forward you can move the coil bucket etc. assuming you are going to retain stock coil/mounts and not do coilovers. Two, the cross member under the rad. area will interfere with steering as well. Now, I have a buddy who made his own crossmember, moved the steering box to almost the end of the frame, moved the rad. forward, lengthened the fenders and hood and got 12" out of the move, it was not the cleanest or nicest looking but went extremely well which was his original goal. I will look for pics this evening on my home comp.
How much mod. does your buddy want to do? The crossmember fab and moving the stock steering box would not be too bad and that should give you 4-6 maybe......That way you could retain stock fenders and grille, just cut the heck out of them :)

I think my buddy is up for anything. Yes he wants to stay with coils. I was thinking 6 inches could be done. I am just looking for some ideas before we start cutting. It seems that you could use a f150 4x4 box since it turns backwards. Mount it where the pitman is pointed foward so you wouldn't have to move the steering box as far foward.

Any pics would be great.

I think that ~3" is about all you're going to get without major modification. You'll have to notch the body mount on that side to mount the box.

I'm still kicking around how I'm going to go about it. I'm moving my coil buckets, shock towers (though it's looking like I'll build some hoops), and box forward. I'll get a new lower steering shaft.

I'm also moving my coil bucket up a couple of inches. I want nice long springs, and a low stance. I'm also going to look at BB/F150 buckets, and see if they may work for me as well. There's also a chance I'll wind up building my own. I don't know yet.

You can push the coil buckets forward 2" and leave the box and trac bar bracket where it is. Then push the axle 3" forwards. 1" past the buckets insn't bad (slight coil bow). I went 1" forwards to make things easy when installing the Cage arms. I'm wishing I would have cut the towers and pushed them forwards but that will be later.

Finally found the pics of the rig I mentioned-boy I forget alot of stuff in 3 years!!! NO front fenders, they built small tappered sheetmetal covers for the back "gap"/opening around the heater on the pas. side and matched them for the d.side. Narrowed the front of the hood, tube deal to secure the hood. Tied into the top of the coil mount with a small diagonal brace..... The coils and mounts are sitting against the stock body mount. Full hydro, so the only thing on the frame for steering is an orbital valve. The stock cross member is removed and they added one on the END of the frame rails for strength. I will call the builder tonight and ask if he remembers how much "stretch" this produced.

Im moving mine 6" forward and using a stock F150 4x4 box. What you do is mount the F150 box in (relatively) the same location as the stock box, then cut the towers and trac bar mount off and move them forward. You can leave the body mount as is. As noted, the truck box arm swings forward so this is were you keep your steering clearance.

I havent been able to work on it as of late, but ill be back on it at the first of the year.

Thats pretty much what we were thinking. Is the front cross member gonna be a problem? or are you that far into it yet? I would think that the front body mount would have to be removed so the tires wouldn't hit them.

As far as i can tell it will go together like this-

F150 4x4 box in "factory" location, with arm swinging forward

trac bar mount will center up with crossmember

coil towers will weld on right behind tracbar mount

As for the tire hitting the body mount- i dont think that will be an issue with fullwidth but i havent had a chance to get everything tacked into place for mocking purposes. Once i get everything mocked into place that should give me a better indicator of bodymount clearance.

Anyone run full hydro steering on the street? Sure would solve a lot of problems. As for the body mounts, narrow the front and that should take car of any rubbing;D .

Drove a buddy's comp. heep back in '01 when folks were just getting started with full hydro. VERY touchy at speed...... The rams have improved since then but not a rec. mode of steering for street.

Wow, he moved his front out 6"! I have a Scout II box in the garage...

As for the full hydro, one draw back I can think of would be the lack of feedback from the steering. Much like a forktruck steering.

I think removing the body mounts is going to be a must. He has is body mounts removed in the later pics on the website. So with stock width axles hitting it is gonna happen.

I think we are going to try the 4x4 f150 box.

Mine is pushed forward as well, I forget how much, 4-6 inches.
I ran a scout box and hated it.
I switched to full hydro and its the best setup I have ever ran.
Its load reactive, so it gives you feedback in the wheel.

welndmn, what steering system did you use?

As for my rig the front aprons or inner fenders are rusted as are most. So I have given thought to building a removable tube front clip. I want to remove the inner fenders anyhow to help keep things cool. I also like the narrowed body work look. I'm wanting a target wb of 102-104", so 6" back is not impossible and 4-6" forward should put in the ball park. I like that approach angle, looks like you can climb straight up a wall.
