Find a Bronco in the south west. Pay more for a good one with the least amount of rust. Take it home and properly undercoat the thing. ( Ford never did and didnt even paint the underside). make sure all the seams are sealed before you ever take it out in the winter. Now you can make it your 4 season car. Next investment would be a lower pressure, pressure washer to wash off the road salt. Like driving the Bronco at the beach with the top off they are way cool when the white stuff is flying too.

Im getting close to 15mpg on hwy and 12 around town but i don't drive it easy either, this is with a fairly built motor really low gears 5.13 and a 4r70w tranny, cruise at 65 is around 23-2400 rpms, this is also with 35's smaller tires less lift will net you better mileage with similar set up. good luck with your search for 12-15 you should be able to find a very nice bronco with a lot of the stuff your looking for.

If I were you I'd be looking for a 76 or 77 model year first (they had the power steering and front disks standard) or look for it as a upgrade when you go and look at eariler models, many of them have had it done aready, it sounds like you'll be on the highway alot so a roll bar and three point seat belts would also be something to look for, better seats with headrests as well, this will make it about as safe as possible.

As was said, " wrong place to come if you want to be talked out of buying an EB. If you look at my garage you will see one that was bought for @ 10k 4 yrs ago. We found it in central Minnesota with a little under 15k miles. It is as original as they can come unless they were bought new and immediately put into storage. Welcome and good luck in your search.

While I do love Broncos, if you're looking for a 4 season vehicle to do long weekend road trips, the Bronco is probably not the ideal choice. It's loud, gets bad gas mileage, is ~40years old so reliability is a concern. If you can live with all those things above, it will be SUPER FUN to own and drive one! :)

For it to meet your needs well, I'd say you're looking at spending double what you mention above ($12-15k) if you buy it already built.
