Can anyone tell me what the PO has here in the pic? I haven’t seen this in other broncos. There’s a Tee fitting off the heater hose that tees into two rear ports of the intake.

that's to potentially eliminate a possible hot spot in the rear of the engine

Mainly a 351W thing by the way.
Although GM continued the theory with their LS-series engines by plumbing in steam tubes around various points in the upper reaches of the heads.

The LS is a different animal. The LS has a reversed cooling. Water hits the heads first then flows down to the cylinders. Since the water is being pushed down through the engine air/steam pockets are an issue. So there are a couple of air bleeders in the top of the heads to fix this.

A Small block ford has a conventional cooling system. water rises up through the block and flows forward through the heads. The highest point in the engine is the front of the heads. And that is where the water leaves the engine and goes into the intake and the thermostat. So there is no place for a big air pocket to form that would need a bleed line.

so the crossover tube i put in the rear of my lower intake is not necessary (351W w/lightning lower)? i havent run the engine much, but the times i did, that tube was never warm like the radiator hoses were.

I like to ask the question another way. Has anyone ever done this modification and solved a problem by doing so?

Played with it once, did nothing.

I did use it for heater water supply. AZ doesn't need a strong heater so the warm water before the heads was enough. Opened up a port at the front of the intake for EFI temp sensor.
