Hose from Brake Line Tee- Where does it go

I was putting shocks on the rear of 72 Brono and discovered a hose which came out of the top of a tee connecting the brake lines. It is broke. When I looked at it, it is full of black carbon material. It is on the drivers side of the " pumpkin" and on top of the axle. I was looking at replacing it but the other end goes above a metal plate and looks like into the frame. Where does this go and what is it purpose? https://www.flickr.com/photos/77159845@N07/50345826761/in/dateposted-public/ ...Picture of other end.https://www.flickr.com/photos/77159845@N07/50345193988/in/dateposted-public/

That is the axle housing breather hose. It needs to be replaced and run up inside th frame. This allows the housing to vent and prevents water and debris from getting in. The tube coming out of the housing is threaded. I would clean all the crud off from around the fitting, carefully remove it and make sure it is not clogged up. I’ve serviced many that looked like that and they were all packed full of dirt and gear oil.

I now see the threaded nipple fitting you are refering to on the tee. I thought it was all one piece at first glance. So I need to remove the tee and then remove the "nipple" and clean. Does the hose going into the frame just pull out? Is there an easy way to get it back in the frame?

The hose just tucks up in the frame. Some have a little clip on them to hold it in place. Most I’ve dealt with have rusted away. Just pull it out and replace it. Just make sure you leave enough slack so it has room to move when the suspension flexes. I usually use a section of 3/8” fuel line for this as I alway have some laying around.

The PO put fuel filters on the end of my hoses. Does that allow enough breathing/venting?

Yes, until wasps pack them with mud. The best vent hose cap is simply a common plastic pushpin (christmas tree) retainer. It can be worn-out, as long as it still has a few fuzzies.

Wasps around her don’t tend to do that, but there’s always a first time. I’ll try the push pin idea, thanks!
