I am trying to remove this rascal. I really don't want to remove the dash to do it....but can't get to it very well. I'm attacking it from the ash tray access. I need to dispose of the current cable assembly so I can put in a new one...my old cable snapped in the engine bay. I understand there is a nut on the back of this switch, but I can't get my wrench to hook up to it. Guess I just gotta keep trying. Between the radio and the defrost duct, not much room. I need a thin wrench I think. Can anybody confirm the size of the nut as 5/8", just so I have a chance?? That is the size of the retaining nut that came with the new cable/bezel assembly, so that is the size wrench that I've been attempting with.

Been a while since I worked on the truck....I forgot about all the cursing that goes with....

The OEM nuts on both the temp and defrost cables are 5/8". I just double checked on a couple of loose cable assemblies in my garage.

You might have to cut the old cable behind the dash and put a just a socket over it with the cable through the 3/8 (or (1/2) opening and try to turn by hand. you can do the reverse with the new one and then thread the cable through the firewall.
