Watch this video and that will be all the motivation you need.

humm ive been pulled out by that rig, actually my truck is in that video in the end. probably right be for i got pulled. The motor in that rig was way beyond what the original poster has posted. to the original poster i would ditch the heads for some aluminium, Probably the block too, and go full roller. I think you get a lot more out of a roller cam then flat tappet. Also consider efi or propane. both will run cleaner and better.

Mmm, unless you have a place where you can legally crack it open, get in it and stay in it, you'd be looking at overkill for the street.

My 90 rwhp Bronco, while may be a real dog on the trail where some say bigger HP is needed, has more than enough power to go from stop light to stop light, still leave the average cager in it's dust under 1/4 throttle.

Would I go up against a Penta equipped Wrangler, no.

If I had a 351, I'd run it with a 10:1 and aluminum head like a nice AFR 185 and a complementary cam, intake and carb. Alum heads buys more room for starving off detonation on pump gas. If it had to be iron head, 9 to 9:5:1.

IF you want to run 87 octane, keep it at 9:1.

If you're out secretly street racing at night, throw in a 13.5:1 set up, AFR full comps, solid roller, 427 cu stroker shifting out at around 7G. Make sure you have a sweet trans brake to hang the front end off of the line when you come off the brake at around 4G.

Just be prepared for the truck to go any direction when the front end touches back down. LOL.

Oh boy, just saw the edited post, forget the hanging the front tires.

I run a healthy 351, 3.50s and 35s. It needs it either needs 4.11s,or NP435 or both. It is hard to get moving and I'm just over 2k rpm @ 65 with the 3.50s.

Welcome
Nothing wrong with going with a stroker but your building a choker with those 69 heads no matter how well they are ported and polished they will never be enough for that much engine. go with aftermarket heads and aluminum at that they will help you to be able to run pump gas.

I kinda wish i did a stroker. Dont get wrong i love my 351 (when it runs %) ) i have a c4 with 3.50 gears and 33" tires and i can boil them. But theres always the quest for more power. I would like to do 4.11 gears but thats out of the question without an over drive (gotta take the interstate everywhere).

is a nonroller that much worse than a roller?...roller started when 94....is it a pain in the arse to do roller in a non roller block.....

It's not necessary, but not too bad to put a roller cam in an earlier block. Comp Cams has 'Retrofit" Cams for just that. Cam choice (Duration, Lift, Lobe Separation) will decide the overall characteristics of the motor.

The 69 heads would be fine for a mostly stock 351w, but go with an Aluminum Head. AFR 185cc would be my choice for what you want to do.

770cfm would be too much Carb. A 650 would give you better throttle response and still have power.

AFR's are WORTH the money.

I've seen the improvement in QC and horsepower stepping up to the AFR's on both bowties and blue ovals.

Unless you have to have every last bit of power out of your engine or just have the money I wouldnt go with AFR's for a 4wd thats really not needing the extra little flow they give. there are other heads that are just as good for less.

u now how to keep a future 408 builder in suspense??.. tell him there is cheaper heads that are just as good as AFR and not elaborate on the names of other heads...and less money spent is more money in me wallet!!!

Just about any other named brand of head TFS, Edelbrock ect take your pick the AFR's are usually $300 or more than the other popular ones. Yes they flow a little better and tend to make the bigger power numbers but when its only a few HP for the extra money I dont think its worth it unless your racing and need all you can get.
For a 4wd with a 408 something like edlebrock RPM heads with the 2.02/1.60 valves would be fine. Really the only heads Im against for a stroker engine are stock heads it just makes no sense to build a big engine and choke it way down with stock heads. If you try and build up stock heads you will find that it will cost almost as much as aftermarket heads will and the stock heads will still be lagging behind.
Really just do some research on whats out there make your descsion based upon your research not by just what we say. there are a lot of engine dyno testsd out there that break everything down but in the end they are usually looking for max numbers for either bragging or actually racing. When it comes down to it few engines that are built for broncos will put out anywheres near the numbers you see listed in articles or other dyno tests. We are after low and mid range power where the car crowd is usually buuilding for mid to hi range power.
