Thoughts on this engine for a swap?

I've been looking for some used heads and ran across this ad for a motor from an 83 mustang 302:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

good condition, smooth running, carb to pan, water pump, no front dress, no Dura spark box, comes with scarcely used Centreforce clutch, bellhousing, BBK shortie headers, currently wrapped in plastic and garaged, so pics don't show much. around 150,000 Km.

the price is $400. 150,000km = 95,000 miles

assuming it is infact in good-enough shape, what would need to be done to it to plunk it in an EB other than change oil pan?

1-convert to hydraulic clutch?
2-change fuel pump?
3-does my blue-grommet duraspark module work with it?
4-swap back to old exhaust manifolds? (my exhaust is olde and rotted)
5-would the stock 3 spd bolt to the 83 bell housing?
6- change the water pump?

worst comes to worst, I could put the heads on my 302?

Flat tappet cam and block, will need either special oil additives or diesel engine oil or a cam change, and changing an older block to roller cam takes extra parts.
The heads are not very good, nothing like GT40's.
Pre-EFI so probably needs rebuilt for wear after 32 years.
Has 50 ounce imbalance not 28 ounce like Bronco original engine.
Mustangs use a SMALL flywheel and clutch, and a different starter.

Not worth $400 IMO.
Unless you are stranded in the middle of nowhere.

I would value that engine at whatever the core cost would be, about $100 for that engine around here. For $400 you should be able to do much better IMO.

Clutch is wrong, headers are wrong.
Lo-Po engine with nothing more than a marine cam.
Mustang engine (with a performance clutch no less) that has probably been hammered on during its life.

$100 engine all day long.
$400 if it was in the car and you could test drive it before it was removed, and it was perfect.

Probable more like 195K if not more if it's the original engine.

You can pull am explorer 302 with all the fixings for $400 bucks around here. $400 in parts and another $400 in machine shop work gives you a nice rebuilt motor with good heads and GT-40 intakes.

I was going to do the above but went 351W. Bought a running driving 1996 E350 van for $800. After pulling the motor and a few other parts, it will scrap for $300 plus. So for $500 I got a running EFI roller 351W with all the accessories and EFI parts. After teardown, the motor had normal ware but I decided to rebuild it. The block is at the machine shop now.

Pretty much what they all said. Its not a engine many would consider worth paying that price for. The cylinder heads are the crappy ones with large 69 cc chambers and like the bronco engine its has fairly low compression.
Can it be swapped in sure but its not worth the effort. like other 5.0 swaps you need the correct parts to swap it in mainly a flywheel that has 50 oz balance and 164 teeth. basically a 5.0 truck flywheel. So that clutch it comes with probably wont bolt up. your current bronco bellhousing will work fine. Probably wouldnt need to swap oil pans as the fox body oil pans work. 1983 was still carbed so it will have a fuel pump that works in a bronco. Pretty sure 83 still had Vbelts so in that case you may be able to swap to the bronco water pump but you will have to check pulley alginment. Your duraspark igintion will work fine as its not a roller cammed engine.
All in all a lot of swapping parts to make it work but you still end up with a engine that is not all that powerfull.

'83 GT 5.0 will have serpentine belt system. The harmonic balancer would have to be 50 oz as well as the flywheel. I agree with everyone else. Not worth it.
