Tire and Wheel Question

Hi all, I am new here and have inherited my uncles 1974 Bronco. Starting to decide what we want to do for the restore. It currently has 15” rims with Cooper Weathermaster 235/75/r15 tires. I am looking to upgrade to 16” or 17” rims with BF Goodrich All Terrain TA KO2 tires. The tire guy suggested I ask if anyone had used this size and what, if any, was the offset needed. It has a 1” lift on it as well. Any info would be helpful, kind of at a loss where to start with this.

Welcome!

One important question. Have the fenders been cut for more tire clearance, or are they as the Bronco left the factory?

They have not been cut, we are going to be replacing them as well.
I run a 32" tall tire on mine, with uncut fenders. 1" body lift + 2" suspension lift. 16" rims with 4 inch offset. You should probably go to a 17 wheel. Lots more tire choices. Someone will chime in that has your particular lift combo with some good recommendations, I'm sure.

I'd go with the 32" (ish) Tacoma size, 265/70R17 with uncut fenders and would try to stick with a 7" wide wheel with 3½-4" backside. I'm running 7" with 3⅝" backside on my uncut '69.

If you are going to cut the rear fenders or replace the rear quarters with pre-flared, you can go with a wider wheel like 8", but still stay with the same 3½-4" backside.

Thank you for the info, so much to consider.

We can cut them if needed
Got it. Based on information with the right wheel offset cutting won't be required. Is the 1" lift a spring lift or body lift?
Nice story about inheriting from your uncle did he buy it new?

It is a spring lift. He did not buy it new. He owned a body shop that only did restorations. He had 20 plus vehicles, some were inherited, some we sold. This was the only one I wanted. We have one left to sell which is a 6 figure 1957 Chevy Bel-Air, National DuPont award winner etc. it’s been a lot of work but people are thrilled to own his vehicles.
