Hey guys,

I am at a fork in the road looking for advice. I have an all original 74 ranger automatic that leaks pretty bad. I am planning on pulling it and having it rebuilt. My dilemma is that I really want to put a PTO winch on also. At this point I can't decide if I want to go with the auto and get an electric winch or swap trans to manual and get the PTO winch.

Any advice/opinions are welcomed. I would also like to hear some options on which manual trans you would switch to if swapping out.

Thanks

You can still use the auto with a pto winch. Someone on here has done it.
I can remember what had to be changed, but if IRC it works well.

I'm about to go down that road, and had the same "will it work" toughts, but I figure if in drive the trans moves the truck, it will deff turn the PTO

The PTO winch works just fine with the auto. transmission. I have owned a couple Broncos in the past with that set up. The PTO gear box bolts to the transfer case and the C-4 does not interfere with the drive shaft.

pics? I am interested on this also.

I can't help with pictures. The Broncos that I owned with autos and PTO are long gone. I am sure someone on here has this set up. Maybe they will chime in. My 74 that I have now has a PTO winch but it has a T-19 4 speed.

There would be no difference between manual and automatic as far as the drive situation goes. Both are going to spin the t-case when in gear.
The t-case would go into neutral to stop the vehicle from moving in either case.

The only mod I think I might have deal with is the shifter mount where it bolts to the C-4 intermediate housing.
