I'm looking for valve covers that will fit.

Explorer EFI intake with AFR heads and roller rockers

The heads are really no different than the stock head when it comes to demensions. So...clear the roller rockers and clear the intake.

Hoping to avoid a spacer...cost. But do have plenty of hood clearance.

I use the mustang aluminum valve covers and 5/16" thick gaskets (felpro 1645). 1.6 crane roller rockers on AFR heads.

Stock '85-'93 mustang EFI covers. I did have to trim down a couple of the cast ribs inside the covers but the oil baffle was left alone.

Factory Mustang covers fit over my roller rocker equipped Trick Flow Twisted Wedge heads - stack rubber gaskets if you need more room, skip the cork.

Good idea. Thanks. I think I have a plan that will work. I think my Scorpions and AFR heads are quit a bit taller than some other set ups. I ordered three sets from Summit. Decided to do it right and get what I wanted appearance wise...wallet be damned.

Question...does the stock 85-93 covers have a breather on the other side also or is it blank.

How much of a spacer would you have to use to run the tall covers with the stock type upper EFI intake?

Assuming "tall" means 4" cover, you'd need a 3/4" - 1" intake spacer to clear a stock explorer intake without modifying anything. Most "tall" covers are 4" but some can be found less. There is 3 3/8"...maybe 3 1/2" of space under the stock explorer intake. Again, the two 90 degree elbows for the PCV are the first points of contact on the drivers side and most non smog cars will dump these lines for something simple. That means you can remove and plug these 90 degree elbows and gain nearly an 3/4" additional clearance. Good luck.

So without that vacuum tube that hangs down... You would need a minimal spacer or is that a 3/4-1" spacer without tue vacuum tubes?

Yes, you'll need a spacer of 3/4" - 1" to clear a 4" "Tall" cover if you don't remove the vacuum tubes.

If you remove the vacuum tubes you will still need a spacer with 4" "tall" covers, but it won't need to be too big. Might get away with 1/2" maybe less. I'm guess-ta-mating a bit right now.

I just got all three of the above mentioned covers and the "Blue" Ford Racining ones were 4" tall covers and had holes on each side... With no intake spacer, they will not fit under the intake even if you removed the 90 Degree elbows. These are very tall covers. A bit more than 4".

Here's the results. I got the summit delivery. All arrived and wow...not what I was expecting.

The first link above I attached are Blue "Ford Racing" tall covers... I liked the blue and hoped it would tie into the engine paint I chose. They did not. I did not like them at all color wise or style wise. They are a well made product as are all these covers. These were very tall. They did not fit under the explorer intake even if you did remove the 90 degree bends on the driver's side. You would still need an intake spacer to make them fit. And, they had holes on both sides which I didn't want. Return.

The second link I posted above are the Canton brand covers that claimed to clear roller rockers and the EFI intake. And, they do! And wow, I really like them. Sold!! They are plain jane polished cast alunimum, but I like it. They'll match my intake tube too. So, yes, they clear my roller rockers, clear the intake easily...not even close to hitting anything even with the 90 degree bends in place, and the oil fill neck is far forward and does not hit my BC throttle linkage or anything else for that matter. There are no holes on the driver's side cover...good! The Oil fill neck is soild and the cap is billet, I think...very nice cap. They are very well made too, solid. They are very short appearing...I didn't measure them. They are shorter than the "Cobra" ford racing EFI covers which are next. I think they get away with being short and clear everything because they kept the inside of the cast cover clean of anything...no bumps/lumps or ridges. These are the ticket at $152.95 from summit.

The last set are "Ford Racing" "Cobra" covers made for 86-93 mustangs EFI motors. They cleared both the intake with 90 Elbows in place and cleared the roller rockers. So that is great. There are no holes in the driver's side cover...good! But, they did hit the BC Bronco's throttle linkage and the oil fill tube got in the way of the mount for the BC throttle cable bracket, but you could select another hole location and probably make it work. And you'd need to grind about 1/2" off the bottom of the BC Bronco's linkage bracket to clear the top of the cover...not an issue really. So, YES, these do clear my roller rockers and I was told by a few they wouldn't. I have Scorpion 1.6 pedestal style rockers, on AFR 165 aluminum heads. But, I'm told the AFR's match the GT40 heads deminsionally so I think the stock explorer heads with these rockers would clear too. So I chose the Canton's over these. I liked the look of the Cantons on my engine...they just matched better than the black of the Cobra covers. The Cobra covers could have worked with very little modifications to the BC linkage stuff so don't let that stop you from buying them. I just liked the Canton's better.

Good luck...hope this helps.
