Weird options

I was looking at my rusted out body of my '69 the other day and remembered to the left of the speedometer there was a factory choke and idle cables in my dash. How rare or odd was it to have this? Any other weird options out there?

They are very common. Especially on the older years. For some reason I see them most on the '69s

I've had the choke knob on all five of the Broncos I have owned. I have only had the throttle cable on my '69 and one of my '68s.

Now you got me wondering. I have a '74 parts truck that is not quite the same as my other. The VIN in the glove compartment says '74 but I have always wondered. It has a clean looking hand choke, no hole for the radio and the speaker hole I think is bigger. The tub came off last week so I'll have to check the frame.

I've got them on my 69 as well.

The throttle is a pretty cool option for me, since i'm running a premier power welder. I can run the factory pull knob and not have to deal with the premier hand throttle. :D

Good for keeping the rpm's up when you're winching too.

I've got both on my 69, great for warming it up when it's cold. Just set the R's up a little and she warms up faster, will also be handy when I get my winch installed.

I heart my manual choke...

Oregon Winter Mornings Starting Procedure:

1) Pull choke all the way out
2) Turn key
3) Engine fires, push choke in 1/8 to 1/4 inch, depending on outside air temp.
4) After 10 seconds (juices are flowin'), push choke in half way, walk away
5) Go get newspaper, kiss my wife goodbye for the day
6) 2 minutes later, push in all the way, drive off... life is good!

Ventura County,
Iv also got both of them on my 69.
I use the choke after the rig has sat for a while to get it started.
Most of the time it starts on the first or second turn of the key.
Done that ever since it was new.
Throttle knob and cable are still there but disconnected.

I have both on my 69 as well. They work great. Now if I could just get my chainsaw to start as easily......

My '71 came only with the Throttle option, so I went down to the local dealer and bought a new Manual Choke control and converted it myself.
Both work great, but the throttle is a little loose for continuous cruise-control duties. Starts to work it's way off after a few bumps.
Probably just have to go in and tighten up a few things and it'll work like it used to. It's on "the list" now.
