I have the original 16" naked steel wheels on my 66. They are currently black. I'm wondering if they were all white originally? All the old photos I've seen from that era seem to have white steelies. Anyone know?

Thank you!

White! Maybe grind or do a small strip on part of the rim to see what's underneath.

I did some scuffing today. Sure enough, there's white under there. I'm going to have them powder coated white tomorrow. (Sorry, Ford Man!!) Here's a question though, when they came from the factory back then, were the lug nuts painted white? How about all the wheel parts and peices that show through the white rims? Like the threaded studs and the center hub portion? Was all that painted white as well or were they black? I want it to look correct for the most part....AND KICKASS COOL!

Lugs nuts were zinc plated (silver), studs were also zinc and hubs and axle ends were mostly black.....Ford didn't do a real good job painting the chassis. Were are the pics of your project???? You need to be a 'contributor'!

Okay, okay. I tried. I think I managed to get some pictures uploaded. It's how I bought it a few months ago. All I have done to is is install a new dash pad, new arm rests....removed a lot of garbage off it....replaced some glass... I haven't posted pictures really because I hate the way it looks right now.

Thank you for the info. It's a huge help.
