Two pieces of advice.

Don't wet sand in winter unless you have a heated garage.

Don't even think you can get away using an orbital sander and water in the same room.

If you look at a nice straight panel after paint you can tell when a DA has been used. You just don't get the same smooth finish since you can't keep even pressure on the whole thing when not doing it by hand.

Are we polishing finish paint here or are we prepping primer?

OK I agree with that but once it has been cleared you can use a DA and wetsand paper without the results you described. It's alot easier to buff using the 3000

The way I prep my body work is to block with 320 dry then go over that with 400-600 dry with a da and interface pad. Then red Scotchbrite, then paint.
