I have a friend that has a 78 0r 79 bronco...he tells me it has a 351 in it and I can have it if I want. Is it a 351w or 351c?

Didn't they have some W motors in those years? I bet it is a 351M

If it is displacing 351 cid it is most likely a 351M. I have seen a 351C that was transplanted in a 2nd gen Bronco and have heard discussion of someone swapping in a 351W but these latter two engines were never offered in the 2nd gens. Only the 351M and 400. The 351W wasn't available until 1982.

Up until the early '80's, the 351W was considered a car engine.

Anyways, if it is an automatic and has a W or C transplanted then the tranny would also have to be swapped. The M has the same bell housing as the 385 series 429-460. If it is a manual a simple bell housing swap.
