What 4 wheel Disc Brake kit ????

Looking for recommendations from those with experience of having bought and installed a 4 wheel Major disc from Toms, Wild Horses or Bronco Grave Yard. Would buy the same kit again? I really do not want to have to move shock brackets . I have a 1977 big bearing stock housing. Any troubles installing or missing parts ?

Thanks for any input, I just want to spend as wisely as possible.

I've been troubleshooting the Tom's Cadillac rear disc set-up. First time I've ever used them, brand new, and they just don't have the stopping power - even with vacuum booster and 1" bore M/C. I'll never buy again. Nothing against Tom's - this style of aftermarket caliper is used by lots of Co's. It's just the design sucks especially the park brake. It'll never hold a Bronco on any grade. I set my cable adjustment so tight the bracket on the driver's floor tore out of the sheet metal - still wouldn't hold the rear brakes and was able to drive right thru it.

In retrospect, I'd go wildwood dual piston caliper for the rears w/ drum park brake - they aren't much more money, and miles ahead in performance. The Chevy fronts are OK - I've installed two of them with decent braking on tires up to 34". Can't say how they work on larger diameters. Be sure to search this forum for disc brake issues - you'll be reading for a long time and learn a lot from the rest of us. Good luck

I would say there are fair number of people who have not been impressed with rear disk brakes in general. Some have gone so far as to go back to drum brakes.

Weak parking brake is very common with rear disk setups. Especially if the tire size starts going up. The Explorer rear disk that has a small drum parking brake under the hat is usually one of the better setups. But not a bolt up to the big bearing housing as I recall it.

If it's a dd it's not worth it. Invest in hydroboost instead. I have 4wheel disc on both and am happy with it but never took the time to get the e-brake adjusted right. I'm swapping the 72 to hydroboost and may try to dial in the e-brake while we're messing with it.

I installed rear disc as part of my build and after way too much time and aggravation getting the parking brake adjusted, then never getting the pedal feel where I wanted it, went back to disc.

I’ve also installed Hydroboost and front disc (Duff ford style). I still haven’t driven the truck, just didn’t like the setup at all and went back to drums.

I have heard many complaints about rear disc set ups on broncos. I've only had rear discs on a VW and I know in that application the rears were basically useless, especially the ebrake. Seems like a lot of people have the same issues with broncos. I went with the Toms power front disc conversion and rebuilt my rear drum setup. I absolutely love the way it stops. I haven't driven a hydroboost set up but from what ive read that is the ultimate way to go.

Another vote for HB and rear drums. Works great.
