Hi all,
I started a frame off restoration of my `74 Icelandic Bronco.
My tub was very rusted and I decided to get a new tub. I have seem many threads on how to treat the bottom. I will paint mine and have it anti rust treated by a body shop. (Its like hot wax) They treated the chassis same way.

But what should the color of the body bottom be? Limestone green like the interior and the exterior? Black?
What color the bottom of the tub look like if I could look at a new one a Ford dealer?

thanks for the help.

Usually, the majority of the bottom of the tub was not painted and red oxide primer was what was visible. The wheel tubs most of the time got a lick and a promise of paint.

Mine is body color where you can see it.
It got covered with Rusty Acres Rust Proofing at some point early in its life.

I guess it's like anything else. Different painters on the line did it differently. The two I have had that weren't rust buckets or undercoated were painted underneath. Obviously not coated like the exterior/topside but not primer only either.

Early years red oxide, I've had later ones with body color, but usually just a thin color coat.

Well the OP seems to be gone...

Here it is again:
I am restoring my 1974 Icelandic Bronco.
Since the Body was pretty rusty I bought a new body.
I want to paint the bottom and a body shop treat it for rust with something that looks like hot wax. They did the same on the Chassis.
The question is now what color should the bottom of the tub be? Body color, black or...?

I guess I deleted the OP by accident... Sorry

I asked what the original color of the bottom the tub was when the Bronco was new. I bought a new body since mine was too far gone everywhere and now I need to paint and I want to make it original.

Thanks

What year EB do u have?

Says it's a '74.
My '71 had more body color green underneath than it did red oxide. But there are (or were) both. Now lost under years of rattle-can undercoating mostly.

At the time of my reply, that question was the last post showing, though the time stamps say otherwise...the weirdness continues.

Sounds like you can't go wrong either way Lux, I'll be facing that decision very soon as well
