I made an offer on some seats off classified and the seller said "OK, send me a check and when it clears I will send you the seats" He returned my check. I called and said WTF. He said a better offer came along....Sad part is he didn't think he did anything wrong by taking a better offer. I told him we had a deal but he just said, "yeah but I got a better deal" I hate a man that is not good on his word! %)

Oh man, that's low down.

Doing the deal with my buddy, financially would have been better. He wanted the Bronco w/ the motor in it so I woulda had another $1000 in my pocket. I like to think my integrity is worth more than a thousand bucks though.

Here is my side on a deal. I had a old ford crew cab that I got dirt cheap from a guy for 800 dollars I add some tires and rims that I got used for 200. I used the truck for what I deeded it for and decided to sell it. I stuck it in the Nifty Nickel local want adds and then went outside and put a for sale sign on it. A guy across the street who was staying with friends came over and checked it out. It was just what he was looking for and we cuta deal for 2000 dollars in which he would give me in around 7 days when he got paid at 6 pm he said he would be here to pay cash, I said that was fine with me and we shook hands and he said you wont sell it out from me will ya and I said not a chance it would be here when he promised the money.
Now I get back in the house and my wife said this other guy was calling about the truck and wanted to see it. So I called the 2nd guy up and told him that I was selling it to another guy and explained it would be a waste of his time to come look at the truck at this point because the deal was done and I would be paid in 7 days. But he still wanted to look at it just in case the first guy didn't show so I gave him my address. He showed up quick and looked at the truck and said he would take it I told him it was sold as far as I was concerned but if the first guy didn't show I would call him
. That guy said thats nonsense I got cash right here and now I said cant do it then he said OK I will give ya 2100 for it I said I cant do it. He went up to 2500 and got furious when I said no. But if he came back in a week at 601 pm I would sellit for 2500 if it was still here. That guy called countless of times and came over twice to try to get me to buy that dam thing. Well on the day the first guy was to bring me money for the truck the guy showes up at 530 and still wants me to sellit to him I said in a half an hour I would if the first guy dont show up. Well at 550 pm the first guy shows up and hands me the money and as I was handing him the title I told him that this other guy here was willing to buy the truck from him for 2500 if he wanted to sell and make some quick cash. The two of them where walking back to the first guys house with him saying no I need it over and over. I tolds my wife that I believed that God was testing me do to the persistent from this other guy from the beging. But Like some say Your Honor and integrity is all you have that can only be destroyed by our selfs.

that's why these moral/ethical threads go on so long. Some people don't see anything wrong with backing out of a deal they made or gave their word on. Making a deal by giving your word is in essence a verbal handshake deal, so if they will break their word they will break a handshake and they will break a contract.
It's like the old joke about the whore: "now we know what you are, and we're only haggling over price."

I agree that if you give your word that you will hold on to for the person, you should. And if a better deal if it comes along, you should pass.

But if it were me, I would have not given my word to hold on to it in the first place. Its hard enough to sell stuff without getting wrapped around the axle making promises that really have no benefit for you.

You just gotta be upfront that it is first come first served...

Buyer showed up yesterday to pic up the Bronco. My bro said he was pumped to be getting it, and it sounded like he was gonna fix it up nice. Had to get my bro to send me one last pic before they hauled it home. This was the Bronco that got me hooked ;D
