Hey guys,
I know this topic has been covered many times over but I'm looking for some reassurance here. I'm getting ready to purchase wheels and tires for my 71' build with 3.5" SL and 2" BL. I want to go with 35x12.5" tires on 17x9" 4.5"BS wheels. Will this combination work? Any pitfalls that I need to know about? Of the wheels I like, 4.5" BS is the best I can find.

Also, any pics of a similar combination would be great!!!

Any info is appreciated
Jim

35x12.50x17 tires with 17x9 wheels, I think the wheels are 3.5 bs or 4". %);)

That is the same combo I was thinking of going to. I have been told the 4.5" BS is OK with 17" wheels.

Now seeing the Kyddsply truck with 37's Im thinking maybe using 37's.

Hey guys, sorry for the delay in response. I've been running around like crazy this week for my teenagers sports. Lots of good info and some good looking rigs. I feel much more comfortable in the size that I'm looking at now and I ordered everything up yesterday afternoon.

Thanks again guys

I've found a few things where people having indicated that 4.5" BS has worked fine for them with 35s. Some said you may have to adjust your stops once done though.

The 37's do look good but I want to avoid having to do any major adjustments to make them fit right. If everything goes well, I might go to 37's with my next set.

I can't imagine a scenario where a 37 inch tire on a wheel with 4.5" bs is not going to rub the radius arms at full turn. Now maybe there is such a place, but when you can rub 31's on the arms, it's hard to think of 37's, or even 35's that don't rub.
But that's not the area that most are worried about. It not only does not hurt anything (the tire or the arm) other than making loud noises, but can be adjusted out. You lose some turning radius, but that's what "kinked" radius arms are for anyway.

The only clearance issue other than that is probably what you were referring to rcmbronc. That's where a 4.5" backspace on a 15" wheel will rub the tie-rod ends on a '76 or '77 Bronco steering knuckle only. All other years, like G_B's '71 don't have that issue.
Then again, with 35" tires you are hopefully running disc brakes Green_Bastard? If so, which ones do you have? No info in your signature line, so it might be pertinent to your answers.
And what tires do you think you'll go with? I can see where some really wide ones might get close to some rear shocks. But I don't think many have run into that. Sounds like most running that combo are just fine.

I'm running front disks from a 78 FSB and wilwood rear disks. Not sure on specific tires yet but I'm looking at 35x12.5x17s I'm open to suggestions. It's a frame up build so I'm trying to figure everything out now
