Windshield frame re-mounting?

I have been using a spot weld remover for all of my spot welded body parts so far. It usually leaves a hole in the bottom piece of metal after the top piece is separated. My question is... When I drill the spot welds out of the hinge area(body side)..do I need to fill the holes in the cowl area on the body where I drilled the hinge out? Just didn't wanna plug weld the new frame over the old holes. Hope that all makes sense.

if the holes dont match up they need to be filled either weld them up or use silcone or something similar unless you want water coming in every time it rains

when ever i change out a windshield frame. i weld up or repair any holes or rust pots that are in the hinge panel. this will stop any potential leaks from coming into your feet and into the body structure.might want to use some neutalizer as well before you put the new hinge in. you can use a alum block to back up any holes you need to spot weld/build, up then grind smooth.
when using the spot cutter, you might want to try not drilling the pilot hole all the way through the bottom layer .
you can also just cut through the top layer, alomost going all the way though, then seperate the hinge with an air chisel carefully to pop it off. you'll usually kill the hinge doing it, so have another ready to use.this eliminates allot of damage and repair to the mounting panel.

Hey Nick,

Thats what I was wondering. So just drill my pilot through the bottom piece of the hinge(the hinge part thats folded under when the windshield is upright)and not through the mounting cowl area? That way I can remove it and hopefully not have holes in the mounting area? If I do get holes through the mounting area...weld them solid and grind it smooth for the new hinge and frame? Let me know if i'm gettin it.
