C4 tranny fluid change help

Just changed the filter on my c4. Obviously drained the fluid out of the pan. Chilton says that you should add 3 qts after the change. I added the three that it recommended but it is not engaging any gear. I suspect that it requires more fluid but would this cause it not to go into any gear?

I am confused...

Probably more fluid needed. The longer you have the pan off the more that leaks out. You put the throttle pressure relief valve and spring back in, right?

That spring will releve itself if you don't keep an eye out for it too.

Last time I serviced mine it took 8.5 Qts., but I popped the drain plug on the torque converter too.
