I don't get what the mystery is about a custom grind for one, but as a engine builder without all the specs on a particular cam how can I choose piston dome, +/- piston dome cc. cc of chamber ,valve springs or even lifters especially on solid roller setups. if the profile has extreme ramp speeds I better know so I can choose the appropriate lifter, will a standard lunati do or will it need insky redline extremes. when building a race motor valve event timing especially the actual intake closing is very important for compression calculations etc. the cam and heads are the lungs of the motor and you can't make a motor around the lungs in less you know what blood those lungs need.

95% of the people use a (by the seat of there pants) dyno and I bet you they will never FEEL the difference of if this cam or that cam gained or lost 10 horse or 15 foot #'s . why do all the major grinders such as comp, crane, inski, lunati, ect publish there cam specs then ? I understand secrecy in the competitive racing world but some of these custom grinders are acting like the rest of the population using there cams for none competition uses are going to let some secret out. to who? what secret ? asymmetric lobes ? lobe separation. high lift short duration close separation there no secrets. but I sure in the hell want to know the specs so I either know what I need to adjust buildwise or choose a different cam that will work with what I have .say I already bought all my rotating assym. and heads now I need a cam, do I call a custom cam guy up and say hey I have this combo now make the cam you think I should run? no not me I'LL tell the grinder what specs and timings I want thank you or choose a grinder that will provide all the specs I want . just my opinion yddayp.

I see it this way, spend your big dollars on your custom grind that are no different then the published cams except for some centerline or lobe separation numbers and I'll use a published cam of similar spec or intent for less $ and 95% of the peoples seat of the pants dyno can not tell the difference.
is there a place for secret cams specs ? hell yes in the competitive racing world . is there a need for secret cam specs for the average consumer or engine builder . I say hell no.

NVRSTUK one of my best friends is a custom cam grinder and has been for over twenty five years and his business is thriving and he will give you every spec about any cam you inquire about and what he can and can't change about those specs. does he wish he had a cnc cam grinder yes , does he need one ? no . cnc cam profile is great but once you made the cam it's fair game for any grinder to make a master of it and add it to there inventory of grinds. case in point is take insky's 262 super cam and comp's 260 magnum cams do you really think there 2 different cam profiles ? put them on a cam doctor guess what surprise same #'s . it's how they advertise those numbers that make them look like 2 different profiles.

Whoa whoa whoa... I didn't even ask for the custom grind specs. I know them now, but I've paid for the camshaft. It's a custom grind...ground to work with my current rotating assembly, heads, intake, injectors, throttle body, mass air, headers all known to Ed prior to deciding on a final camshaft profile. He suggested that I use the morel lifters (I've had excellent success out if them in the past) & he suggested a valve spring upgrade on the heads (which I expected when I upped the anti from 351 to 418 due to lift) and he suggested I either do some serious port work to the lightning gt40 intake or go with a different style as it was not going to flow the air needed for this combo. I went ahead and got a trickflow R intake but I'm going to hang onto the gt40('s...I now have 3 ;D ) and maybe use 'em on future projects.

Return the TrickFlow.

Too late...already pulled the trigger. Good thing is that I bought it from a buddy for a highly reduced price ;).

I was not attacking you or your cam choice niped, sorry if it came across that way. something just doesn't settle right with me hearing ( I'll tell you the cam specs I picked for your motor when you buy the cam) from a cam company.

No worries man. I understand it totally. Ed had to put up with me popping off questions about this or that...& he always answered very promptly with a helpful response...even on Sunday!!! That makes the experiment well worth the small amount higher that the camshaft actually cost vs an off the shelf piece. Or at least...here's hoping ;D

1-5/8, i don't know of any thing bigger- generic. Someone posted bronc hut had 1-3/4 available, Don't know if long or short tube, the choices are slim but for your application the 1-5/8 will work ok depending on the port and flange size. If thinking best tube diameter for all out performance you should consider a custom set. It will run alot better if it can breathe.:-X
