I'm looking to make a solid 500hp which isn't an easy task at 6000ft elevation.

What about 2 small turbo's?

Another option I was looking at with the turbos was going with a 393 instead of the 418? My reasoning for the smaller engine would be for less work clearancing the block and if I'm not mistaken I could use a taller piston giving me more piston skirt and a better wrist pin location. I'm still pretty sure I could get the power I'm looking for.

This is will also let me get my compression ratio where I need it where as the others didn't offer as wide of range of pistons.

Also I'm seeing that Milodon offers a 4 bolt main retrofit kit for 2 bolt main blocks. It adds 2 extra 3/8" splayed bolts on the 3 middle journals. They claim it puts an end to crank walk. Would this be better than a main girdle?

I looked at that coast high set up and it included a cast crank. I thought if you were running boost you'd likely want a forged crank instead. My 393w had a cast crank and I always wished I had a forged crank. I just didn't like to think about it when I was running it hard, eventhough
the guy who built my engine would run cast cranks all day long in his mud drags up to 600hp.

i went with afr 185's on my 408. it's nice being able to throttle out of stuff easily. i can't picture a need for boost on top of it with the stock wheelbase.

i really think a roots style supercharger is the way to go. boost is instantaneous.

I do know I can't afford a roots supercharger!

Quick question for those of you running the ford DIS system. Where can I find the whole cmp assembly fora 5.8l? Is the boneyard my only hope at this point or is there an aftermarket unit available?

Dorman 689-102. This will come with a steel or steel compatible cam gear. I advise changing it if you run a cast cam. You will need to make a sleeve to fit the block opening.

Do you have any links or pictures of the sleeve that needs to be built?

It's actually on the synchronizer in the picture above. Here's another. Sorry, I didn't note the dimensions for it.

Does anyone on the forum make these? My grandpa has a lathe if I could get the dimensions for it. But I'd definitely buy one if they are offered anywhere.

I'll look and see if I can find the dimensions. Mine is currently 1206 miles away.

I have a Holley HP EFI, which is their version of the Ford DIS, and just modified my original distributor to operate as a cam sync. My local machinist made a cap for it. I too was having a really hard time finding a cam sync for the 351w block because all of them were for 302's.

Here was the article I used.... It was easier than it looks:

The super awesome guy that originally designed those collars is a member here. But, I don't want to throw his name out there just yet. I believe he still has a batch of them on hand.

I was going to buy them all from him a couple of months ago because he didn't want to deal with selling them individually. I completely spaced it because there hasn't been a bunch of people asking about them.

I'll touch base with him and see if he still has them.

I've ran everything from stock 302 to a 700hp N/A 418w.. Turbo, supercharged, N/a.. By far the best engine I've had was the N/A 418w. Especially for a big heavy truck. Expect to spend some coinage.
