Here's how I would handle it. I would make the claim with my insurance company. I'd commission the shop I'd want to do the repairs. Upon completion of repairs I'd pay my deductible, and drive away in my repaired Bronco.
That's really all you have to do.
It's why you pay for insurance. They are there to pay for the cost of having your truck repaired. Insurance is not doing repairs to your truck, the repair shop you choose is. You and the shop are to determine how your truck is repaired. It is your property. No one can total it unless you let that happen. Look at it like this: To total, the repairs to bring a vehicle back to "pre accident condition" must exccede a threshold compared to the value of the vehicle. Insurance company sets this threshold. It can range anywhere from 50% to 110% of the value of the vehicle. If you agree to total it you receive payment for repairs up to that value, minus your deductble. The ins. company retains the vehicle to sell, (at this time in most states it would have a damaged title) to recoup it's money. You essential are selling your truck to the insurance company. It's your property. You can not be forced to sell your property. You can also agree to total but retain the vehicle. You are not buying it back. You then receive payment minus your deductible and salvage value. Ownership never changes hands and your truck retains it's original title.
Your insurance then goes after the person at fault. Read; the insurance company covering the person at fault. To get the money paid for repairs, towing, storage fees, even your deductible. Another way to look at it is: insurance companies will do anything to get out of having to pay for something. The person at fault is responsible for repairs to your truck. They have insurance to pay for it. Don't feel bad about holding people responsible. If the other company assumes responsibility for repairs most likely they will do whatever it takes to reduce the amount to pay. Your insurance is less likely to because they know they can sue the other company to recoup what they have paid. Who's going to do a better job of taking care of you? The company you've been paying or the one that owes you money?

Sorry to hear about the crash, glad to hear you are okay. I would definitely look very hard at the frame and body panels all the way back to the rear bumper. From just what I've seen I think it'll be relatively easy to fix. Worst case scenario you could just get a new frame instead of trying to straighten the existing one.

Sorry to see this happen, and glad you're ok. If the Bronco has no special value (model wise) it would be easy to find a parts Bronco with a good frame and clean title, that's rotted to pieces. This way, if they total it, or the total and buyback makes financial sense, you could rebuild it on a clean title frame. The one warning is make sure the frame is titled, as it would be a bigger heartbreak to have your good parts on a stolen frame. Based on the pics, the damage is in the front frame and sheet metal. With proper prep and tools, the big stuff could be handled as a project, leaving nose and paint to a body shop.

This old Bronco can be fixed. However moving forward is about as clear as mud, there are so many variables that no one knows for sure......

Insurance isn't as straightforward as you may think, it DOESN'T work this way: You buy insurance, get into a crash, insurance company pays to have it repaired, and you live happy ever after.

Insurance companies are in business to make as much money possible and spend the least amount possible while doing this. They will go to no end to achieve this goal.

Also the the people in the other car didn't speak English, and the police said there was no proof of insurance in their car.

Wish I could say I was surprised. Running under/un-insured motorists insurance is a must in Texas. Guess we can add Florida into that group now as well w/ Arizona, New Mexico, California, is there a pattern here I'm not seeing? %)

Sorry about your truck kiddo. But at least you're ok, take it from us more *ahem* mature folks, your health is priority # 1. The rig can be fixed.

I'm also sorry to see it happen. Nothing worse that to be forced into something like this that's not your fault.
Some things to consider, as mentioned in previous posts:
1) Get a few estimates from shops that are capable of bringing your Bronco 100% back to it's previous state and give them (Ins. Co) the highest. Never take what they will give you right off unless that's a clause in your policy that you agreed to when you signed up with them.
2) If the Ins. Co. totals it, but it back from them and have it repaired with the money or do it yourself. The buy-back is usually pennys on the dollar, probably 5% of the stated value.

Good luck with it and keep us posted!

I found a shop in the area that does highend restorations, body work, paint, extra. And they are currently building there 6th bronco for the same client, this one is being built with a brand new Dynacorn body, they are assembling all the panels. They appear as if they do good work and know Broncos so I think I'm going to try to get them to do the repairs. The insurance company hasn't inspected it yet so we are waiting on that.

Just a heads up...Those wheels are no longer available...I hope you had a spare.
I saw 2 just yesterday on Craigslist or ebay, I will try to find it for you. You need to buy them and then when you settle with the Insurance make them pay you back.
If you decide to sell those and go with new ones, you won't have a hard time selling those here...."DIBS";)

I looked and they have been sold...sorry

Wow that's great! So what happened exactly? They tried to sneak across an intersection and clipped you?

I dont think it will be totaled but let us know what they say.

How much is the tow company charging to store your vehicle? If at all possible, move the truck somewhere that doesn't charge a daily fee. The "storage yard" that my motorcycle was moved to after my accident charged $50 a day - which adds up quickly.

Presumably the insurance will pay that fee, but it depends on your policy. If you move it, you're showing good faith & saving yourself possible headaches.

At this time there's not reason to bring a lawyer into things. Work with your agent, if you feel you're treated well & insurance is holding their end of the deal according to the policy, then you save yourself 30%. If the agent is being difficult, you can get a lawyer or request a different agent.

Find a shop that you trust will do a good job and represent you to the agent. Many shops do insurance claims *all* the time. They're going to have relationships with many of the local adjusters & agents. If the initial estimate is too low, it's easier to have the shop communicate with the insurance company rather than you.

Unless you've priced out aftermarket adds in your policy, such as the bumper, you'll get next to nothing for them. I received .25 per dollar spent on aftermarket items in my last motorcycle accident. While 25% doesn't sound too bad for "used" equipment, it barely represents the cost associated with the add ons. You can try to work with the insurance company on this. An agent could say "it's our policy, nothing I can do", but everything is negotiable.

Thanks for the heads up, I have a spare on the back. The wheel that came off has a small dent, I think it may be fine though.
