Does a fiberglass body decrease a Bronco's value?

Hello!

I generally browse the For Sale forums as I am in the market for a Bronco of my own. On eBay, I've noticed that some Broncos with a fiberglass body do not reach the reserve price. My father-in-law is a vintage car guy and he prefers steel bodies because they retain their value more.

Personally, I'm not looking for an investment piece but something I can drive around town during the summer. Are '66 - '77 Broncos with fiberglass bodies worth less than ones with steel bodies (non-original parts)?

Yes, generally fiberglass for an equal vehicle is less expensive, less potential buyers, and sells slower. Though if you live in a place prone to rust and simply want to enjoy they can be a good choice. The other issues is many of the old tubs were not of the best quality, while the new BroncoDesigns tubs are really nice.

Well, I never knew a fiberglass body is exactly what I wanted, per the sales lingo....

I think value is more defined by what was done and how it was done, not as much is it fiberglass. Hack job? Hack pricing. 65 corvette concourse quality? Top dollar.

In general in car auctions, a fiberglass vehicle sells for less than a metal one. You see that alot with hot rods.

I live north of Boston as well and my tub is fiberglass, everything else is steel. Like Tasker, I drive mine year round (except when there is a lot of salt on the road). I am never planning on selling mine, so "value" is all relative. I am not sure that I would drive it as much if it was 100% steel.... or more likely, I would still drive it and be more concerned about rust down the road. My tub is a Kentrol and I don't think that I have ever had anyone ask me if it was fiberglass. People just recognize it as a Bronco and being cool.

BroncoDesign had a wrecked Bronco at Super Celebration that had belonged to one of their customers. It had one of the BroncoDesign bodies on it. If I remember correctly the owner had rolled it. I was very surprised how well the Bronco held up. It was scuffed and cracked but very repairable. Made me think about using a BroncoDesign tub for one of my projects.

Hey Stout! Yes it was rolled nose first. The guy only had a steel hard top, no roll cage. He is lucky to be alive still. I'll post some pictures up so everyone on here can see it!

I assume all things equal, fiber is worth less. How much? Who knows. I have had over 10 broncos and all had rust. I built mine to keep forever and the only way I could rationalize it was fiber.

Done right, many people dont know its fiber.
