Guys , My 68 bronco has a VIN # reading U15NLC14487. I know it is a Wagon with a 289 built in Michigan and built as a 68. The part that is throwing me is the build date number. This number does not seem to fit in any of the 1968 build months according to BroncoOhio vin code charts. Anyone have some input on this . Please let me know. Thanks

I have a 68 with U14NLD serialized and built in April 68. Don't know if that helps, I'm no expert.

Thanks. But no. Part that is throwing me is actual numerical numbers on this thing. According to my research the numbers are to low and are not shown on VIN decoder charts. Does not fit in any of the build months.

That is an early September of '67 build. So a pretty early '68.
Thanks for the info. Where did you find that info? Didn't they build 67s into Aug of 67? If so I guess that would make this a really early 68? Like the 487 th one made?

I didn't find it. ;)

No, August would have been first month of production so there's around a full month of production in front of it.

Looks like BroncoOhio is missing three months of numbers. The numbers should start at “C00000” in August and increase by 14000 per month......

Was wondering. They were also showing production of 67s in Aug of 67 on their site. That is why I was wondering if they simply started with 14000 in Sept of 67 to offset that. Thats what I get for thinking..... Looks like my 68 is simply an early Sept build as stated above. Thanks guys.

Correct. As a matter of fact the Norton/Zuercher Stroppe race truck is C00001, which likely means it was the first or second 68 built.

Tops are interchangeable and done all the time. Otherwise only 1972’s and earlier would have them.

And some Broncos came with full tops AND a behind-the-seat bulkhead as well. So on those it would have been even easier to make the half-cab complete because it already had the lower bulkhead.
But the U15 is what says it all. No matter what the PO's have done, and no matter what the original selling dealer might have done for a new owner, a U15 left the factory as a full wagon.

If you have not done so already, you would want to match the VIN's between the registration, kick-panel Warranty Plate AND the stamped VIN in the frame.
Have you checked all of them yet?
