Engine and trans swap suggestions

I have a 72 , 6 cyl 170 , 3speed on the collum. I bought a 73 302 with c4 trans that came out of a 73 bronco to swap out the 6 cyl. I am thinking of having the 302 and c4 gone over (rebuilt) which if I do that then that means new collum remove cluth pedal etc. Or do I swap the engine and get a rebuilt manual transmission 3 speed on collum that will handle the v8 power. Looking for suggestions and recommendations, thanks

I have never heard of this "302" and "c4" nonsense you speak of......

I have been trying to get someone to put the 4 cyl ecoboost in. I think it should be you. Work out all the problems and properly document it

What size tire are you running (or plan to run)?
What gearing do you have? With the I6 it is probably 4.11s but might be 4.56s.

Stick shift or automatic, which one do you want to drive? You bought an automatic so you have interest there. But you are considering a stock 3-speed, so you are not afraid of a stick. But it sounds like you are after the manual option out of being lazy in doing the swap.

It all depends what you plan on doing with the Bronco. If your plan on using it for the street I would put the C4 in. If you have the money I would rebuild the motor and C4. Stock auto columns pop up time to time. You can always get an aftermarket column or put the shifter on the floor. The hard part is done you found a factory C4. Good luck with your project.

column shift

I changed from a column shift to a floor shift and my good friends is good with fabrication / paint etc. He remove the shift lever and patched the hole and painted it in a few hours and it looks great. I still miss the column shifter but do enjoy my 5 spd o/d. You can get a floor shifter for your c4.

freeway experience with low gears

Also the six is usually a 4:11 or possible 4:56 gear so with a v8 it will still be revving kind of high on the freeway. Most v8 Broncos had a 3:50 ratio I believe.

That's why I asked to find the ratio and tire size. If it is 4.11 and 33" that is a pretty sweet combo.
