Rebuild or Replace Stock PS Gearbox

My PS gearbox just blew out at the input seal. 1970s EB stock.

So I'm looking for input on best, easiest route:

1. Attempt to replace the input seal? The PS system has operated perfectly but screamed at hard and slow turns for some time. It's possible there's more going on than just a seal.

2. Rebuild at West Texas. everything will fit fine this way. Time is the only annoyance.

3. Borgensen Universal 800125.

Anyone have experience with this thing? I'm only concerned over whether this will be a simple pull/replace or I'll end up having to pick apart the whole system. Tires are 33s, so they are in range.

I had my 74 box rebuilt and converted to a 3.5 turn over the winter. What u found debating the sane ideas you have is these boxes are becoming quite hard to find and rare. I decided to rebuild because it’d be as good or better than new plus still part of my original equipment. All in was cheaper than buying aftermarket box

I used blue top for the rebuild

I'd rather rebuild. I prefer the feel of the Saginaw vs the import boxes.
AGR does all my boxes & upgrades. each gets run across their dyno before being shipped. have had nothing but good results.

Great info, thank you.

I'm going to try to rep the seal for now then plan a full rebuild shortly. Napa actually had the input shaft seal in stock and it seems extremely easy to do. Worth 10 bucks for the try.

Either way I'm definitely getting the thing rebuilt. It was perfect before it blew open, no need to get crazy with new/china.

I havent used em but I think theres Lee's power steering or something near santa clarita that guys have highly recommended. Hopefully somebody will chime in with the exact name and location. That could save on shipping or be a day trip

Lee's power steering does more than boxes. They rebuilt my hydro boost unit out of an F350. Great to work with. They have a website, return emails, sometimes hard to get on phone, but that was 2 yrs ago...

I know a lot of racers that use Lee. Always hear good things.
They're located in the Valencia Industrial Center behind Walmart, off of Newhall Ranch Rd.

My PS box is at AGR per your great advice. I’ve been working with Big John over at AGR, he’s super knowledgeable and responsive. Should get it back this week and reinstalled next week. I’ll probably pull the PS box on my F100 next and have it rebuilt by them as well.
